Zone 7 Central Virginia - Have you started any tomato seeds yet?
Comments (9)Hello Dancinglemons. How about 15 minutes West of Richmond, Va.? I recall that Snowstorm, we had, last Easter, which turned a Dining room into a Greenhouse, which caused some serious grief, around here. I lost quite a few plants, I'd raised from seed, waiting to get some real sunshine back. If you are confident and willing to keep that close watch on our weather and temps, you may set them out early, with a reasonable risk. I had the neighbors laughing, at the 18' Tomato Trees, until they got a few of the free toms. I was doing the SFG technique, with some modifications and my own Hot-rod soil mixes. Learned some valuable lessons, good and bad. Working on my second garden spot, this year, to expand my harvest and selections, to do. I'll share things, I learned, if you are interested, just contact me, via an E-Mail. Mike in Montpelier....See MoreOK, So I Tried the Impossible
Comments (5)From Men's Health: Ingredients: "Water, Soy Protein Concentrate, Coconut Oil, Sunflower Oil, Natural Flavors, 2% or less of: Potato Protein, Methylcellulose, Yeast Extract, Cultured Dextrose, Food Starch Modified, Soy Leghemoglobin, Salt, Soy Protein Isolate, Mixed Tocopherols (Vitamin E), Zinc Gluconate, Thiamine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B1), Sodium Ascorbate (Vitamin C), Niacin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Vitamin B12. "According to Impossible Foods, one 4-ounce Impossible burger patty contains 240 calories, 19 grams of protein, 9 grams of carbohydrates (3 grams of which are fiber), and 14 grams of fat (0 grams of which are trans fat). "Compare that to one 4-ounce grass-fed burger patty, which, according to the USDA, contains 224 calories, 22 grams of protein, 0 grams of carbohydrates (and so 0 grams of fiber), and 14 grams of fat (0.8 grams of which are trans fat, but the natural kind, and yes there are natural forms of trans fat)." My opinion: The B vitamins would be better to get from actual food, but at least they include them as supplements. This is an issue with a lot of vegan food. I'd rather have a nice veg pattie made from food than all those factory made isolated food parts and some nutritional yeast, or something. They used to have something like that (not sure about the vitamins) at a local chain, but it went under a long time ago. It was good. :) Ritaweeda, thanks for the report!...See MoreDo you have a perfect burger bun recipe?
Comments (33)FOAS, Substitutions do make changes, but if you want to try this one, you can make some substitutions. You do need the starter, but regular white starter is fine. You can substitute milk for some of the water and dry milk, and potato flakes, if you have them, for the potato flour. If you have starter, but want whole wheat starter, you can just feed it whole wheat flour for a week or two. Start with 10% ww/ 90% white, and change the ratio to a little more ww each time, over about four feedings. That keeps it from being shocked by new food. If you do it all at once and it goes still and languid, just put it in the fridge for a few days to a week, then feed it again. It'll get over the shock. Because, they really are pretty perfect buns!...See MoreDo you have egg cups? Do you use egg cups?
Comments (59)Be careful Jinx, next thing you know you will want an egg coddler . . . We had the cups when I was a kid but I have decided I don't really like the process so I can't justify the storage space they would take up. I did inherit a little gizmo to "poach" an egg in the microwave. It's very fast and the egg comes out perfectly round. I use it to make egg sandwiches on an english muffin. I thought I would not like it but it has worked out well in use....See Morecolleenoz
