Comments (24)Hi freedee: We also love Tremontano, but they only take cash!! We are debit card people for food items, so that store is a problem. Have you ever tried getting cash on the island? Not a good idea! They do make nice sandwiches, though. We also LOVE Oakies Meat Market in Surf City for great steaks and burgers, but get there early as it gets very crowded. Last summer we tried Taste of Italy in SC and liked their cold cuts and salads alot. gail618: I got those prices quoted from a local locksmith in the shore area. I got quotes from 3 different local locksmits and they were all in the same price range. I think the programmable lock was a Schlage (sp?). One of the locksmits told me he has it on his house and loves it. Interestingly, I asked him what people who strictly rent out their houses do about the key problem. He told me he is actually on retainer with several homeowners to go every week/weeks/month during the summer and change the pins on all of the door locks to insure past renters no longer have working keys to the houses!!! I can only imagine how that cost must add up! The locksmith told me that you have a master program (say 1234) and they you add a temporary bypass code to allow the renter or guest into the house (say 2233). After 2 weeks (or whatever you program into the lock), the code reverts back to the master code (1234). He said there are even locks you can reprogram from your cell phone without being there in person. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions....See MoreAnyone have a Vacation Rental

I’ve seen something similar at Lowe’s but it was just a front of the aisle display. https://www.homedepot.com/b/Smart-Home/N-5yc1vZc1jw i’m sorry you’re having to deal with this upheaval in your life right now. You have such a beautiful and well loved home, I can empathize how difficult it must be to open it up to strangers even for just a little while. I don’t think you’ll have any problems finding renters, and hope they all turn out to be lovely tenants who will respect your property. The owner of a house we rented in Maine a few years ago lived in MN and managed her VRBO from there. She was super organized and left a binder with the instruction manuals for all the appliances in the house. Nice to have so it’s not hit or miss figuring out how some things work. We rented another house once where the owner had about 5 remote controls on top of the TV. What a pain that was. If you got the tv and cable in sync, you didn’t remember how you did it....See MoreWhile we're talking about vacation rentals…
Comments (19)Nosoccermom, People believe that home prices always go up in the long run, and they are generally right, because of inflation and population growth. Home prices have been going up each month for 70 months now; before the crisis they had gone up 182 months in a row. But I would say that most people at those price points do not necessarily buy a home for the economic rationale. They want the freedom to do with it as they wish, and in most cases higher end buyers are going to renovate. I would also venture to say that whoever is renting it at 9k/mo is just trying to cover some carrying costs while they wait for a sale; high end properties can take along time to sell. It is not like I would expect to rent it at that level indefinitely. One additional reason to buy in Fla. is to shelter assets from potential creditors. Not my area of expertise but I believe they have an unlimited homestead exemption? Which would mean that you could go bankrupt or be sued but no one could take the equity in your home. The "foreigners parking money" thing is popular but i think that is really buyers speculating on appreciation. Most foreigners park money in Treasuries, which far more liquid, with no carrying costs, and safe!...See MoreDecorating beach house
Comments (7)if your tile floor is a peachy beige, I don't know if the gray will work w/those tiles. hard to tell from the photo. I'd choose a very light neutral or a type of slipcovered sofa. something easy that you can wash. something like this with a sisal or jute rug, which are pretty durable and beachy. or a cotton dhurrie type of rug that's easy to clean. if you choose to repaint, pick a nice white and then you may be able to do your sofa. similar to this one. choose a nautical theme rug and decor. https://blog.evolvevacationrental.com/vacation-rental-decor-furnishing/ you can also browse photos of Beach homes here on Houzz to get ideas...See Morelynartist
