Is coral decor only appropriate for beach homes/coastal regions?
Comments (18)Able to check this for the first time today...yes, lamps are shaped like actual coral. Not just coral colored. They are red in color, and the overall lamp height is fairly tall. They would have some presence, that's for sure. marg/birdlover/ttodd- Yes, definitely like the coral stuff and have for awhile. If they weren't so pricey, I would buy them in a heartbeat and just store them if I got sick of them. julie- thanks for your honest opinion:) rmkitchen- I know it sounds somewhat wacky with the printed chairs and all that jazz. I like your theory, maybe it is my conscience trying to tell me they would look funky with my other decor, LOL. I will try and post pics of my bedroom. Once I dust and pick up (kid's toys, clothes, extra pillows, extra blanket, suitcase that is still sitting there unpacked from our last trip, etc.) finz2left- I love that you grew tropicals! I have always wanted a potted lemon or lime tree to keep in the house. I think you just gave me the courage to finally do it:) celticmoon- Yes, coral with white and blues definitely seems beachy. My bedding has oatmeal, red, and lots of blue. Not exactly a beachy pattern, but I do have blue curtains. You are right though- lots of black to ground it. It would probably be more of an issue if I had white painted furniture or rattan, LOL. auntjen- thanks for the words of encouragement. And yes, you are correct. lamps are coral shaped and bright red. And on another note: those darn opossum just love cat food! We used to see them all the time on the back deck, munching away....See MoreBeach decor
Comments (4)On the other coast, but in a coastal town and re-doing moms (91) old house to merge to a new style as I move in to take care of her, I have a few thoughts. We have a large garden so for me, slip covers are important. As hard as you try to not bring in the dirt from the garden, it finds a way. Slip covered furniture can look very beachy even if some are over the style. Because of the garden factor and since I sew, my seat covers are all a tan shade rather than white. I will probably end up with a second I can toss in the wash. I have had white/natural but over time was less happy with how they wore. I also know mom would not like a sea of white so I made the pillows and pillow backs a floral print I liked. Ours is a very old and small house. I did not want to chase fashion trends and picked out something that I thought had that vintage look. Mom has a big collection of cobalt, teal and turquoise glass wear plus has been collecting antique canning jars for 30 years. I am not done so no pictures, but guess what.... Turns out everything is now suddenly trendy and the colors is too. I know that in a couple of years, it will make my designs look dated and out of fashion. But, I know that the white shells in the mason jar are the same ones I collected with my boys as kids, the white coral my dad dove for in the 50's, the jars mom collected decades ago etc. Trends come and go, but looking at your home and how you want to live should dictate how you decorate. If I get tired of something or want to chase a trend, I plan on doing it with a new pillow cover....See MoreBeach decor
Comments (12)Thank you mlmlpadv. I do know of Wendy. That house is super cute...probably a little too cute for my every day home. If I understand it is her second home. Basically, the idea is that we will keep our tiny place here and the shore home would be our primary residence. Where we are now is not a place that lends to entertaining or a lot of visitors....we are a good 30 minute drive through back roads to get here. We want to have lots of visitors and think since we already have family with vacation homes there we can have fun having others come during the peak season and in the winter we get our alone time. I am actually excited about having ten people in a 3 BR home sleeping in the sunroom on Aero Beds.... Like I said it is probably a year out but I am excited and love to get the ideas. Our current home is eclectic. My prior home was a Cape that was very traditional and some of those pieces and the Blue Willow China will go with. Keeping the other home is for a year and see if we actually come back "home" a lot....See Moredecorating a vacation rental beach home
Comments (10)It depends on lots of different variables of which we don’t have info on! Where is it, what is the rent ( high end; mid range?) size of rental, is it a cottage or condo, etc..? Will this cater to young families and will it be pet friendly? We need more info. I have several beach rentals and they are furnished comfortably but practically! Keep in mind that people are on vacation and there will be sand and the occasional wet bathing suit ! Not everyone will be as careful as you would like so nothing that is too valuable! If you are near salt water wood and plastic work better than metal( rusts !)....See More- 5 years agolast modified: 5 years ago
