need help pulling colors together on mantel, trim & window coverings!

newly recovered heirloom sectional and fireplace stone colors must stay. the stone is gray & sand colored. The upholstery matches the gray in it. Im thinking about painting the mantel more neutral & possibly the window trim too (natural wood turned orange over time). Also plan to eventually paint walls with less yellow undertones.
Are these curtains a good choice? I needed to tie together the current wall color & new warm grays & wasn't sure which way to go. I think if I can unify the wood colors, the rest will get easier.
This coffee table will probably be replaced.
Also wondering if I should carry these same curtains through dinning area windows.
The fireplace is on the North wall so sun floods dinning area. need some privacy but neighbors are pretty far away.

dont paint the mantel, stain it to match the window trim. You have a rather eclectic look going on here. I dont see a need to put any curtains on those windows, if you need sun shade I would go with wooden blinds or something that can be opened and out of the way. IMO the window trim is really nice and a good accent.

That coffee table look like a knee knocker, and also in general is much too large, I would opt for a nice set of end tables to break up the look of the armless side of the sofa and a place to set a drink. an ottoman might be a good solution too, or round coffee table.

I feel like its a rustic/country look with some Spanish style lighting. My concerns would be the decor on the mantel, the sconces and end tables. I would probably get rid of the tables next to the fireplace as well.

RL Relocation, thank you for sharing your ideas with me. I have struggled with the trim & cabinet stain comming out too dark, but it's a hard thing to change.

I do like the idea of staining the mantel but it will be a real mess to remove the sealer on the raw wood, just looking at all options first.
I do plan to switch the sconces to black iron and like these i your picture!

The 'tables' beside the fireplace are bookcases used for storage. I'm at a deficit for places to display things so it's all crammed into these areas. So you suggest simplifying the mantle decor . Will be getting a large family photo soon, so maybe just it & the new sconces?

Yes if we put tables at other end of couches, will definately need an ottoman in center because we usually sit sideways to put feet up. Had thought of ottomans on the ends also, if have a table in center. Grandkids love to sit there for projects & eating!
Definately like idea of oval or rectangular coffee table/ottoman. This one is a temp freebie.
Don't want to deal with cleaning wood blinds but like idea of roman or pleated blinds. (Was trying to bring more balance because drop lights, windows & table are not centered in the room.) Thought filling wall with curtains might make it less noticable?

I am probably the last person to get this right for you. But here goes. I do think a celery green on the walls would be wonderful because I am partial to greens. The rug couch and cubes are all good together. I would pull the couch up over the edge of the rug to ground the couch or pull the rug back to the couch which ever fits the space best. The front of the couch needs to be on the rug. It looks like too much space between the couch and cubes. Might just be an illusion so if they really are that far away to be used as ottomans move them closer to the couch. The red pillow is not the right red for your room. Maybe go more on a burgundy or green. What glares at me is the dark hole of the TV set up. Can you set the TV on a small wood dresser or something other then what it is on? Or hang it on the wall? Spread out the components some and make a better living space for the VCR or DVD , game, or whatever it is. And move the stereo. If that is impossible can you cover the base of the stand with something cloth? Now crazy me. If you do not need the long curtains to cover the windows for privacy and warmth. I might move the whole rod off to one side and let curtains just hang on one side. .In your dinning room area do it one on left side of window one on right. But then I am a virgo and need to see balance. Some one else will have a better idea. I can not help you at all with art. I have very little and what I have certainly will not be your style. This is coming from a thrift store shopper is why. So now I am done.Great space to work with.Love the rug and cubes. I am sure some one else will have much better ideas. Thanks Live Wire Oak. I actually have been using a designer to help me with a lot of my choices. So far, I've been really happy with her suggestions. She is going with me tomorrow with my paint samples to look at slabs. I was really just asking Gardenweb because I consider Gardenweb the authority on all things related to white kitchens. I know that so many of you have them and would be able to give real practical advice. I may just come back tomorrow with the designer's opinions and see if people here agree. :)

New home will have an open floor plan. Kitchen opens to family room & dining room. Cognac color cabinets (med/dark), wood floors (also med/dark) light/med granite and very light backsplash. My colors now are greens, reds, little yellow. I had a French country love at one time. I still am drawn to those colors. However, I also love the beach and am moving 2 miles from it. I have started over the past few years to re-do bedrooms & bathroom in blues. When I move one spare bd will have light/med blue and white quilt and white furniture. 2nd bed will be navy/red comforters on twin beds and navy, red stripe and checked pillows and valance. So, what to do about family room and kitchen. Hard to give up my accessories in greens/reds/yellow, but really love the blues and seashells and lighter coloring. Oh, and my dining set is white with med/dark green coverings that I re-did few years back. New sectional will be a sandy/oatmeal/tan color. OK, so what's a girl to do?? Any sites you can recommend? I need panels in the kitchen over my slider. And a coordinating valance or panels in DR since 2 rooms are adjacent. I truly love both styles. " You asked in one of the other threads about using ticking stripe for window treatments. I think that ticking stripe is definitely a good look for coastal decorating, and is good for the lighter furniture you have. IMO there is a huge difference between oatmeal and camel. Do you have a picture of the sofa and the sofa fabric you'll be using? Do you have pictures of the flooring? Pictures of the granite? Med-light covers a lot of ground - is it busy or quiet? It might be good to put together some mood boards with your different elements. You can do that using a simple Paint program, or Powerpoint, or an online program like polyvore. hope this helps you

If you make the other changes as suggested, I don't think you'll feel the need to paint the brick. There's no sense creating a maintenance issue where there is none now. The house has the potential to be very handsome. Some pretty pots with flowers on either side of your door will add some color as well. Don't forget that nothing looks pretty this time of year when trees are bare and lawns are brown.

I think your home looks great with out curtains I know that things like that can drive you nuts. But curtains won't really fix the problem. I say take one problem at a time, start with the fireplace area, then worry about windows. Just a thought but it looks like you have room in the dining room to add some more storage. Don't forget when you are getting the new family picture to tell your photographer or framing company what size you need for that print, because i don't think it would be a standard size?!

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><md>Thank you for your encouraging comments about my colors. I originally was going for Mediterranean & (cleanable) rustic. It feels a bit too yellow with all the natural sunlight. Will eventually lighten up walls with less yellow undertone color.
I still need furniture to replace the little white table, with hidden storage. only 46" of width though. Maybe low storage bench(s) under windows & shelves above corner round table to display family glass vases & lamps.
This is an addition we added 4 yrs ago & am still figuring it out...Have 13 over for fam dinners every Sun, & hope to get all ladderback style chairs to fit better. table was a surprise gift made by a friend.( not what I'd planned for
