The perfect piece of art for my bedroom
Comments (16)It's getting late in the year here, but it has been warm up until the past few days. I was shopping in Chico's one day this past week and the lady who was helping me mentioned how much she loved my "STRAW Brighton bag..." She did emphasize "straw" as if to say (hey, it's way past Labor Day) and I know, I know, but it is just one more chore that I HATE doing every season, so she called it to my attention that I needed to change bags which I was going to do anyway. I think moreover she was hoping I would buy a bag from her but instead, I took the (defeatist) or (elitist) attitude (you choose which), after gently reminding her (as she had already mentioned that Brighton bags are so durable), that I already have a Fall Brighton and will go immediately home and change out and thanked her for the reminder but said "no thanks" to the bag she so gently admonished me to purchase. I picked up the things I had planned to purchase, paid and went my merry way. Then I came here and saw the "bag" as art and placed my empty STRAW bag on a hook as art in my kitchen and my leather (FALL) one right next to it. Thanks for the idea. So you decide, defeatist or elitist. I just thought it was tacky to remind a customer (out of hope to make a sale) that she needs to swap to a more seasonable bag out of the hope to sell one to said customer....See MorePlease help me complete the master bedroom
Comments (19)Hi Marina- I love your rug, please keep it. Rather than buying a whole new bed, you can keep the one you have and just turn up its appeal with a headboard that you attach, and better bed linens. For a headboard that won't be too expensive, look at the recent catalog from Bed Bath and Beyond. They have several in different colors and materials. You can get one in white or off white, or get a rich blue. https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/category/furniture/bedroom-furniture/headboards/14474/ Here are just a few of theirs It is very difficult to make a bed with a foot board. You will also turn up the wow factor if you get an upholstered bench (fabric to match your headboard or leather) to put at the foot of the bed. You can sit on it to put on your shoes or get dressed. Some of them are made with storage inside so you can use that for extra shoes and boots, or for linens and extra blankets. You definitely need to get a mattress cover for each of the box springs to protect them from dust and dust mites. Also, get a dust ruffle to make the bed look "dressed." You can get one that look more tailored or one with a ruffle, which ever is your preference. I would get a comforter that is larger. The one you have looks too small for the size bed that you have. You want one that comfortably drapes over the sides of the bed. A bed looks luxurious with more pillows, so I suggest you get two European pillows, which are large square pillows, and you want three of them on a king bed, two on a queen. You want the pillow to be 28" on each side so that they plumply fill a 26" sham. These are the pillows that are decorative and stand up against the headboard. Don't fiddle a little decorative pillows, they are a hassle to take off when you go to bed and to put back in the morning, and they drive men nuts. Just get the European pillows because along with the other pillows, you need them and make the bed look and feel luxurious. You also need 4 of the regular pillows that you sleep on, two for each of you. If it is a king bed, most people get king pillows, so each pillow will reach halfway across the bed, and you put one pillow on top of each other, either flat, or arranged slightly at an angle. The European pillows are arranged vertically against the headboard. Some people choose to keep the shams covering the European pillows the same color as the pillow covers, and others choose to use a decorative pattern or color. If you want to have all your bed linens in the same color family, you can add more interest there by adding some texture in the pillow shams on the European pillows, and adding a an extra textured coverlet folded at the foot of the bed. Ugg makes a wonderful line of textural bed linens and pillow covers that is sold exclusively at Bed Bath and Beyond. It's not cheap, but it's worth a walk into the store to give you some ideas. And of course a velvet headboard is just marvelously textured. These days we are all so busy, many of us don't bother with the formal bedspread, and just spread out a large comforter over the bed. In your room you have the color accent from your marvelous rug, and I do suggest you get some art on the wall with colors that pick up from the rug. Also, don't forget a live plant. Coleus is a marvelous indoor plant that doesn't need a lot of light and it has red in it which will work well with your rug. Don't buy lamps until you get your bedside tables because you want your lamps to be the right height....See MoreCan I convert my 3 bedroom house to a 4 bedroom house and is it worth
Comments (8)Check on an appraisers forum to see if there would be any difference in value. Unless you are getting cash for the sale or a large down payment from the buyer the appraisal will be the determining factor if you actually get more at the sale. If you do this change, do it for yourself and not for resale. If you do this change, make sure you don't make the current floorplan dysfunctional as that will take value away. If you are using the exact same square footage and not adding any, then it is doubtful that your home would add value but you would need to get twin sales in the area to see how much, if anything, is added to the value. It may open up the buyer pool and sell more quickly though. As the others mentioned consulting with a couple of Realtors in your area would help you get a handle on the current market....See MoreHelp with finding the right rug for my twins' bedroom?
