Show me your ceiling lighting in master bedroom, please!
Comments (11)I completely agree with lynninnm and les. I hate overhead bedroom light fixtures and any place we have lived I have immediately replaced the ceiling light, if there was one, with a fan (with no lights). We use the fan year-round. Ceiling lights, no matter the wattage, are cold and harsh and you need additional lamps in the room anyway. We have night table lamps which are similar to the size we have on living room end tables and a floor lamp in the sitting area of the MBR. Warm lighting is so much nicer than a cold overhead light, imo, so enjoy sleeping with a fan and scrap the ceiling fixture....See MorePlease help me redecorate my master bedroom!
Comments (6)The most economical solution would be to bite the bullet and paint the desk from your teenage bedroom set that you are using as a vanity. Then ditch the teenage dresser and move the vanity. The shelves in your towers are currently being under utilized and you say you need storage for folded clothes. I would put curtains on the glass with top and bottom rods and use the shelves for the folded clothing. If the only reason the black curtain is there is to hide the cords, I would remove it and fill the area with wicker baskets that have covers. This will hide the cords and offer more storage. Paint the purple shelf black. Since you say you are willing to budget some money for improving the looks and function of the room I think you would be happier if you just got rid of the teenage furniture altogether. Sell it on CL. Then get a second hand secretary desk that looks more grown up and use it for a vanity. Get one that has a hutch to fill the wall space and you can use the cubbies for storage too. One that sits on legs would look light and airy in the room, but if storage is an issue, get one with drawers below. The flip down work surface would stay up most of the time so as not to crowd the room. These secretary pieces can be found on CL for cheap. You will feel more like a princess doing your routine at one of these than at you old teenage desk. If you sell the desk and dresser, and get a secretary the cost might be a wash. If you are planning on painting the secretary black anyway, you can even get a scuffed up one for very little money. Then with a secretary painted black being used as a vanity on the wall, and all the other furniture black, I think you could leave the two towers as they are as the economical option. You don't want everything to be all black do you? You just want to not have a myriad of wood tones and treatments. Your idea to get an entertainment amoire is nice. I think that a TV hidden behind doors is more peaceful for a bedroom and would look better being less cluttery. An amoire would have a smaller footprint in the room and also give that wall some breathing space. They are cuter too and you could find one that looks very feminine. Again, CL to the rescue. Buying a clothing amoire and adding a shelf inside for a TV, will give you style options that are more suited for a bedroom than a rec room. They are usually on feet and a big bulky thing like an amoire in a smaller room needs feet to make it seem lighter. There are some nice entertainment amoires made for LR TVs and they can be found on CL for a song. A nice secretary as a vanity? ===================== An amoire for TV and clothing? Comments (12)HI -- It should not be too hard to make this a beautiful bedroom. One thing I do not like is all matchy furniture . Get a large rug that fits the room ...something with a soft color ( starting point ) and texture . Measure the room so the floorcovering store can help you with the proper size . I like the wall color so you don't need to change unless you want too or.... pick a new rich color from the rug you choose . Move the bed to the opposite wall . I think you need a much longer rich wood dresser for the other wall . Side tables in the same color tone but they can match or not . Large lamps . Now I think drapes will add so much to the room. Full length pleated or grommet top on Dark chunky rods . Big round fancy mirror above the dresser and also a big lamp or matching pair . In store designer or interior designer or a design student can help you put together everything such as the rug , drapes , and bedding . You could even paint the headboard if needed . Look for inspiration bedrooms on Houzz . Also check out Houseandhome.com and any other sites ....See Moreplease help me style my new construction master bedroom!
Comments (5)These are some pieces I had saved as inspiration, I think this is the look I am going for like a distressed white paint with a natural wood top. I was thinking a wide chest of drawers On the bigger wall leading to the walk-in closet, with the TV on top of that. I hate exposed TVs but idk what other choice I have. (TV is for my spouse). Then in the smaller wall leading to the walk in, I was debating a taller chest of drawers, or perhaps the vanity angled in the corner and a lingerie chest type set of drawers next to it for my make up? I currently am using an IKEA Alex drawer set for my make up and perfume and it’s very functional but I want to replace it with something that matches better. Or, I was thinking of angling the vanity and one of the back corners? Not sure if that would work though. I was picturing nightstands below the window but still on the hunt for these as I want them to look a little different than the rest of the furniture, still matching but not identical. Perhaps a white weathered wood with a mirrored top?...See Moremarinaboehm
