Openings for New Projects in the Bozeman Area!

Knot Square Design, LLC has been designing custom homes in both rural and urban areas since 1996. The company changed its name from what was originally Clyde's CAD & Design, LLC as this was perceived by many to be a drafting service, but did not change ownership. This change was made to draw the attention of those desiring architectural design services in both the light commercial and custom home settings. The original namesake designed homes mostly in mountainous regions and has a wonderful history of designing homes on hillside lots and in heavily wooded areas.
Knot Square Design, LLC has a varied portfolio that ranges in project complexity from smaller spec homes up through large custom home designs and has been involved directly and indirectly throughout the construction process. While this is no longer a design-build firm, it is the building knowledge gained over the many years of full service that allows for a true understanding of what it takes to generate a complete and accurate set of construction documents while not being bogged down with a current build. Knot Square is still available for Project Management for those that are looking for this type of involvement.
Styles of design greatly vary and the company has a well established record of working on remarkable buildings and utilitarian alike. Much of this experience was gained in the Southwest, but the owner is from Montana and has returned to the state with the experience of upwards of 250 projects annually in areas such as Flagstaff, Sedona and Prescott, Arizona being designed by his company that was poised in three cities throughout that state. All designs were directly approved by Mark Farrar, the owner.
Currently the company is accepting new projects in Bozeman and the surrounding area as of this entry. Architecture photos can be found here on the pages within, but more organized photos are to be found on the company website by searching the name Knot Square Design on Google, including additional homes.
Knot Square Design has also been designing log homes and alternative building systems homes like Concrete Masonry Form and Structurally Insulated Panel homes over the years and understands the methods to properly install plumbing and mechanical equipment in these types of homes.
The largest home to date has been a 12,800 square foot, three story, monolithic dome in which the owner had very specific elements of design that challenged the local building department. Mark Farrar, the owner of Knot Square Design has been working with this client since 1996 and maintains a close relationship to him to this day as they convert the home into a retreat in Sedona.
Mark understands well the need for proper planning to ensure that homes are manageable in winter conditions, offering his personal experience growing up in the mountains south of Butte and building his own home at over 7,200 feet with a driveway that practically maintained itself while tucking a set of garage doors away from street view. The home boasted 54 windows and 17 doors with 26 corners in the foundation. While this may not be desirable by everyone, it made for a spectacular perch from which to watch thunderstorms and wildlife. Special consideration in roof design allowed for the home to not require gutter systems to direct water and snow shed. The home was clean and modern on the inside and yet was full of large, smooth surface beam work with a balance of warm wood surfaces with richly painted walls.
Custom spec homes were also designed that were fully furnished right down to the silverware in the drawers so a new owner would have the luxury of just opening the door and settling in to relax for a great ski weekend or time on the golf course.
Call for an onsite consultation. Mark would be honored to meet with you on your site and discuss what plans you have in mind.
