New Week and New Projects

Good Evening,

Belle, love your eggs and basket. Hope you do well at the show. Hope your ear infection clears up so you can paint alot. I sure enjoyed seeing some pictures tonight.

I'm so excited you and Anj are doing some painting for shows so we have new projects to see. Hope Anj enjoyed her time away and we'll hear from her soon.

Luvs, have you started any Easter projects yet? I don't plan on doing any painting for awhile.

Cali, what have you been up to lately?

We haven't heard from Bebe for awhile. Hope she's painting up a storm and not under the weather.

We should be hearing something on buying our building this week. Mean while it's taking lots of extra time trying to stay on top of everything going on with the businesses. With the economy it's a little scary investing in that kind of money.

Our weather is rain/snow for the next 2 weeks with little sun coming our way. I bought some new peony and lilly bulbs that I will try to get planted one of these nights. Thinking spring will come!

Punk....the head thing is almost gone! Darn my hide for waiting for over a week to go see my DR. I hate going to see my Dr., and I used to work for him and really like him, guess I just don't like being a patient.

We are under a flood watch farther down river from us, and expecting more rain through Sat., why not..it's spring! My DGS was digging out our last river mud filled flower bed this last weekend and got so wet but kept right on working, wouldn't come in until he ran out of supplies. He was in need of gas money for getting to and fro to class's and wouldn't hear of us just gifting him...no not him...had to work for it!

I have all of my pattern picked out for the show and am busy tracing them, ready for cutting. Also wanted to get a head start on keeping the house clean so have done some deep cleaning. Tomorrow my DD comes again for our day at the family genealogy. We are going to tackle the 5 trunks of family "stuff" I have inherited. I am at the place in my life where if my kids don't want it right NOW, I'm not keeping it either.

How is the business going Punk? It must be really hard for you right now, trying to expand in this economy. So many of our local business are cutting back or closing. Our two towns do have a lot of antique stores and many of them are either combining or closing, lots of bargains if you have the money. I just purchased a really nice footed cake plate with a dome lid for $12.00 The dome was what I wanted and not part of the plate but they come together, so I got both for a bargain. Going shopping again today for surfaces I can refurbish and paint.

Punk I sure hope you can get settled with that building. Did you ever settle with the rental place where you did all the work?

Belle glad you got help from the dr. I don't know what it is, I always think I will be better before I can see the dr. It's always "just" a cold, virus, sinus and will go away soon. Hmmm, not always!

Congrats to Belle and Anj on their upcoming shows! Good Luck to both!

I have been blessed with a new computer and learning to use it! I had bought a new power supply for the old one, but other things were going and we decided that at some point to just quit trying to keep it fixed up. Some things do expire. I have always been somewhat frugal so this was a great decision for me! Ha!

Except for my studio - that is. I am frugal but spend a lot too! For example last week I went to HL to buy some half priced brushes, but did I buy 1 or 2? No! I bought 8!
Heaven help me!

Darn! Darn! Darn! I lost the post I was going to post yesterday, only it wasn't the site it was my lap top....hit some silly key and POOF! everything gone! I was so mad I swept and mopped every floor in the house, and hour later I was still mad so I washed windows....them I can ran out of steam and crashed! Anj....it is nice to see you again and still the busy wife and mom! And just think school is almost out and then you will have new challenges, but what wonderful memories you will have when you children are grown and on their own...gosh! Are they even "on their own?" Mine still come home to talk over things. Luvs....AH! the pond. Haven't found the "hole" yet but we are moving in on it. We have half of the pond to go, but with the weather everything outside came to a stop. I know that my pond sound like so much work, but it is so nice to sit outside for a meal and listen to the sound of the water falls and watch the fish. The little birds are so used to us they bathe in the stream without fear and then there is the flowers during the summer, iris, water lilies, hyacinths, water hawthorn and lotus. It's worth it! Work on our friends home stops during most of the summer, they are very active in our fraternal order, state officers and national chairman, and they help maintain our private campgrounds, so they are rarely home. DH and I are putting together a work party for the fall as a surprise for them, it should be a lot of fun as well as getting things done. And yes, it is nearing completion, all of the essentials are done as well as the wall and ceiling. The mud and tape comes next, then the texture which will be left to a pro. Nice that your neighbors find nice things for you to paint. My BGF finds me thing as well, 1,000 teddy bears, or and entire ceramic village, 25 buildings. Do you know how hard it is to come up with colors for those old houses? Impossible! And she didn't want any of the painted ones back....so I donated the ones I have finished to a charity. Punk....you have been busy painting and now your helper is off for a week and your plans to branch out...WOW! And... DaaaH! I never thought about googling the lanterns and I do it all the time and about the iris...I read the instructions and...no way! Well, maybe I'll change the oils for acrylics, maybe not! Well see.... My pansy's have given me a closer look at what I can do and what I don't know! I don't know flowers! Well, this chapter is getting longgggggggggg, keep safe! Belle

CEF- I keep waiting to see a picture of the living room, pretty please with cookie dough on top? ;) So glad you are able to sell the doors and make some money back. Also, yay for having a properly working car!! Pinkelephant- I am so intrigued by your old school house turned home! I'm curious, do you happen to have any pictures from when you first bought it? It sounds like it has already been through a lot and now you are renoing it again. Your little girl is gorgeous!!! Sorry I couldn't help more with layout, it must be b/c of the time of year it is, the board seems kinda dead. You might try posting another new thread asking for layout help. There are some amazing layout guru's on here, you just have to be lucky enough to catch them. Good job though on shoring up walls, getting window openings set at this time of year, I know I don't want to be outside working right now!! OB2B- I.e. refinishing wood floors, I don't envy you. The first place hubby and I bought was a 60 year old house, remodeled in the 80s and they installed wood paneling and carpet over the wood floors. When we bought it, the first thing we did was pull off the paneling and pull up the carpet. We ended up refinishing all of the original floors ourselves before we moved in. I can't imagine trying to refinish wood floors in a house while living there! The dust and fumes are so pervasive!! Good luck! Also, on a personal note? Only 10 lbs?!?! You are doing much better than I am with reno fatigue!! Terri- I really want to see the before/after pics now!!! From the pic with your son, those trees were massive!! It must have made a huge difference to remove them! Annkh- I'm not a skier but those views look amazing!! I'm glad to hear you had a wonderful time on your ski trip. Schick- I, too, have all our taxes done, just waiting for a few forms to come in before submission. Are you good with electrical or are you going to have to hire it out? Our first house had to have the main replaced to bring it up to code, we were able to do it ourselves. When we added my kitchen last year, we added a sub panel for the new addition and, once again (thankfully) we were able to do it ourselves. I have only, in the past few years, come to realize why renovations are so expensive for the average homeowner. I was raised with a dad that taught me plumbing, electrical, car work, etc. (Yes, all work was done with a permit and passed inspection) No wonder others reno budgets are so high!!! I would have never been able to get even a fraction of what I have if I had to pay others to do it. I hope you are able to replace the main without eating into your bathroom reno too much! As for me, we left Saturday afternoon for them to spray insulation. We came back Sunday night with a vomiting kid and I spent the next few days trying to tend to her AND get work done. She was well enough to go to school on Tuesday so when the baby was napping, I pulled (what used to be) the window in the master bedroom which will now be a doorway to my closet. I also went in my "closet" and pulled all the decking off of what used to be the outside of the house. Just need to finish running electrical in there, build a header and install a door, and get drywall up and I will be able to start planning the design of the closet and planning the reno on the master bath. The bricks were delivered yesterday and the brick layers are supposed to be here tomorrow to start bricking. My dad is the one calling the shots on the reno since it is his (and my moms) place and I think he is honestly just ready for it to be done. We hired out pouring the slab. We hired out the septic (necessary since you have to have the proper licensing, etc. for it to pass inspection.) Hired out some framers to do the HIPP roof and now hiring brick layers to come and do the brick work. Most of this (except the septic) we could do ourselves but he is ready to be done and I don't blame him one bit!!

Jen, How rude of your DH to bring home germs to you. I hope you get well more quickly than usual. Jennifer, I really think more and more than whatever you and I both had in November was the flu. I've been around so many sick people (despite my best efforts to avoid them all) and haven't come down with anything, so I think I've already had it and now have some degree of immunity. I really do believe that. Eva Purple Ball is a good tomato. The color really is a deep pink, not purple, and the fruit are very smooth and globe-shaped, and maybe weigh 5-7 oz. each. It produces a decent harvest here. Rebecca, Take care of yourself. Everything else can wait until you're able to breathe more easily again. I've noticed lots of folks in our area are having respiratory issues lately. Nancy, We fed the Daytimer lust by buying them and they were marvelous. I think that was in the 1980s, maybe the 1990s too. I don't miss having one now and y'all know if I had one now, I wouldn't use it. I used to always buy Tim one for either his birthday (which is in December) or for Christmas until he started keeping track of everything on his phone maybe 5 years back. If he ever loses his phone, he's going to be so disorganized. Lucky went out yesterday, stayed out all night, but was outdoors wanting to come in and screaming to be fed this morning, so I do believe she's here to stay. We have been adopted so many times by so many animals since moving here. I guess we are big suckers because we cannot turn away an animal that needs a home. Like you, I never forget the pets we've lost. I think of them with happiness and with sadness, and I don't want to forget them. I've learned the more love we give to these animals, the more we receive back from them....and the more love we have to share with the next animal that comes along. Sometimes people tell me they don't have enough love to expand to another animal. I think they are wrong---I don't think you have to stretch some finite amount of love to make it cover another animal----I think the amount of love you have to give just is infinite and just grows and multiplies. Don't freak out over the seed sowing and WSing. It isn't like you get only one chance and don't get a do-over. Be patient. Stuff will sprout and grow. You'll find places to plant it all, and if any varieties don't grow (assuming you didn't sow a whole pack of seeds), you can just sow more seeds. We have a long season and plenty of time to plant more and more and more..... If y'all were warm yesterday at 46, then today we were hot at 63 degrees---and sunny! I love it and think we will have a couple more 'hot' January days before the next wintery blast hits us down here sometime Thursday. It's supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow and maybe tomorrow night, and they mentioned the word 'thunderstorm'. The amount of rain expected is small, except for anyone who lucks out and gets a thunderstorm. If we are going to have a thunderstorm, I wish it would just go ahead and hail. That way, we can get our annual quota of hail out of the way before there's any plants out in the garden that it could hurt. Amy, I think God sends us replacement animals before an old one dies. It happens every time. Lucky had been hanging around for quite some time now, but lurking nearby---not coming directly to us. I saw her for weeks and weeks before Yellow Cat suddenly went downhill and died. She has taken his place in the spare room upstairs and acts like she's been here forever. Shady is the last of a couple of litters of kittens gifted to us by Emmitt and Midnight when we first moved here and they just showed up out of nowhere. I enjoyed raising kittens and keeping them together their whole lives, but we got Midnight fixed after her second litter because we didn't want to turn into crazy cat people with 247 cats or something. Since then, we get each cat fixed ASAP after it shows up or at the appropriate time after it is born. (This, of course, does not work when a mama cat shows up with a bunch of babies in tow. and you find yourself adopting 5, 6 or 7 cats instead of 1.) It must be lonely for Shady to have outlived all his litter mates. He is a good decade older than the other cats we have now, and he does act paternal towards them. I think he learned good paternal behavior from his dad, Emmitt. He loves on all of them, likes to cuddle and snuggle, and tolerates no infighting amongst them, just like his dad before him. He even sits in the exact same spot on the back steps where Emmitt used to sit and watch over the yard and its inhabitants. It is like Shady was in training to take Emmitt's place. Honey sounds so sweet, while at the same time being pure puppy and totally destructive. I love it when a dog has that sort of happiness just oozing out of her pores----no wonder we fall in love with them. I have found it very aggravating to garden with puppies, but they aren't puppies long and don't remember destructive forever. One day you realize they've settled down a lot, and then it seems like they suddenly, somehow, in the blink of an eye have gone from being settled down to old and lazy. I look at Jet now and think of how he aggravated me his first 3 years or so and think that I'd give anything to have one of those puppy years back. He mostly sleeps now, and I guess that is the stage he's at in his life now. He is still refusing to eat his Prescription canned food, and the dry is not due to arrive until Tuesday, but the medication seems to be helping him a lot. He doesn't have to go outside nearly as often and he seems like he even feels better. Kim, The story about the Pyrex cup being your coffee mug made me giggle. I'm glad Sophie didn't lose her pups. Rebecca, Our TSC usually has 3 to 5 good basic varieties selected just for OK, sold in bulk from large containers by the pound. They usually have them sometime in January or earliest February. A little later in the season, they'll have maybe 4 to 6 varieties of fingerlings in little bags like bulbs come in. I've grown and liked all the fingerlings, though they produce less for the space than full-sized tomatoes. Atwoods has seed potatoes, about the same varieties as TSC, and usually a little earlier, but theirs come in netting bags of maybe 3, 5 or 7 lbs. Our Wal-Mart usually gets seed potatoes in January (the common ones like Yukon Gold, Norland Red, sometimes Adirondack Blue or All Blue), some form of Russett, etc. and Home Depot usually gets them in February. I have ordered seed potatoes online a few times, but they are very costly when ordered online/shipped and I haven't bought them that way in some time since it really isn't necessary. I started doing it so I could try some of the fingerlings....but now those are available here, and I ordered online the last time so I could grow some of the purple potatoes---fun, but not necessary. Just relax. The potatoes likely will be in the stores by February, and I don't think I'd plant any early than February if I lived as far north as you do. I haven't been in any of the stores here looking for seed potatoes this week, but it would not surprise me if the potatoes are there now. If not, they'll be here in another week or so. If I'm watching for them, they never show up, but as soon as I forget about them and stop watching for them to appear, suddenly they are everywhere. It happens every time. If you buy any grocery store potatoes to use as seed potatoes, just buy them (now) and put them in a cool, dry place and they'll sprout and be ready to plant by the time you're ready to plant them. The only downside is you won't know the exact variety and they won't be certified seed potatoes. Certified seed potatoes haven't been treated with a fungicide to ensure they are not carrrying diseases, but in the years in which I have used grocery store potatoes as seed potatoes, I have not had any special disease issues with them either. Remember, the reason to buy organic is so they'll sprout---conventional grocery store potatoes are sprayed with anti-sprouting chemicals to prevent them from sprouting so, even though that stuff wears off and they eventually sprout, it can take months and months. I have bought seed potatoes from The Potato Garden and they arrived a little later than I had hoped for (but they have to work around what the weather is doing). The seed potatoes were small but healthy but grew just fine and produced well. Still, it was much more costly than buying local. I already had received the catalogs you got today, but the new ones that arrived here today were Willhite Seed and Richter's Herbs. Now, if there is a catalog that is going to have some things I simply cannot resist, it is Richter's. I always have fun ordering new (to me) herbs from them and growing them. I've never had a crop failure or germination issues with their seeds either. The stores here have a lot more seed-starting supplies this week than they did last week, and it does my heart so much good to see them. Irrationally, while we were in Sam's, I wanted to buy some MG Soil-less Mix---not because I have a need for it or a plan for it, but simply because it was there. I didn't buy any because if there is one word that describes my approach to gardening this year it is "restraint". (lol, and we'll see how long that lasts). Dawn

I can't really picture the finished look you're after so I can't help there. But 4x2 is awful tight, especially because you'd better be doing some sort of an insulating "liner" inside the firepit (fire brick is better than a steel liner, and you can find black firebrick) or else you risk cracking your concrete slab. Regular concrete and late night wood fires aren't best buds. Killer views, and I think the firepit helps lead the eye to them. But the expansive views make the 2 ft width feel all the more dinky and undersized. Go bigger. As long as I've been at this no one has ever said "dang Dave I wish we went smaller". Not for nothing but you could also really play up the view to the distant horizon by making the far edge slightly narrower than the one closest to the house, really force the perspective. At first that's what I thought you did, but I think it's an optical illusion caused by the patio shape.

Hi All, I'm so glad you are all still posting away on here and keeping things going. I love this forum so much, but start to feel guilty when I keep promising to get some projects going--and then it doesn't work out! Please forgive me and someday my "want to" will catch up with my "will do". LOL

Belle, your grandson sure sounds like such a fine young man. And it's great that he can/will help with things you need done too. Those sales sound so fun, hope you find some good bargain items to paint on. Sure hope your river behaves itself this year, I know that's always a worry for you.

Punk, I'm concerned for you too with this economy, do you really have to "expand" right now? I know you put quite a bit into that other building and don't know if you will get reimbursed or not. At least you are in a business that is really really "hot", so that's a good thing. I think some people would give up eating before they'd give up their phones! LOL

I'm so excited for Anj and Belle to be doing craft shows this year. Can't wait to see all the neat projects they come up with! ;o)

I've not been painting or using my Cricut lately and I miss them, been busy with organizing,decluttering,cleaning, getting repairs taken care of and learning all I can about DH's medical condition. I switched us to a new doctor and I think that is going to work out better. Also got lots of paperwork taken care of--things I should have done years ago like wills, poa's, etc. Still lots more to do like burial arrangements, getting taxes done, etc. I've had a run of repairs--things like the water dispenser on the fridge, garage door opener, and tumors under my Dusty dog's eyelid. Got them all fixed and all is well--for now! LOL I hoping my "run" with all these things is over and maybe we can settle into a nice boring routine for awhile again! LOL

I've got to go check on my neighbor lady, she's recuperating from surgery and husband and helper can't be home today, so I told them I'd check on her a few times to see if she needed anything. Then I have some yardwork and need to paint my newly replaced patio posts.

I'll try to start getting back by here more often--and someday I hope to even surprise you with a project or two!

Well, dropped my soaps and paint cans off at the boutique this morning. It's been snowing like crazy so not sure how many customers they will have to the "spring" boutique. ha I have some pics of the different soaps I did, but photobucket is not letting me upload pics at the moment so I'll try again tomorrow. Going out to dinner with a friend tonight who's wife has traveled to Ukraine to visit her mother for a month. Thought we'd treat him out since he's missing her and his daughter. Also have my friends son spending the night as well while they are away from home tonight. Trying to keep the weekend low key since I've been in such a rush this past week trying to get everything finished up for the boutique. On a different note, my son received his Arrow of Light badge last night in scouts and my daughter got her braces off yesterday. Need to get some things finished up before we leave tonight. Hubby is at the accountants today. Sure hope we get a good refund. =/ *fingers crossed*!! Talk to y'all later. Hope you all have a great weekend. ~Anj

Good morning all, hope your weekend is going well. Anj, I hope the boutique did well. Maybe everyone had "cabin fever" and were ready to get out and do some fun shopping. Congrats to your son on his badge and I'll bet DD is so happy to have those braces off! As for your refund, I had mine done yesterday and I'm "contributing" so there should be funds available for your refund! LOL

Belle, are you still painting eggs? How's it going? Did the river behave itself?

Punk, I hope these gals had a chance to see your cute Easter table over on the Holiday forum. Bet your little GD loved it.

We've been getting some rains which means more snow in the mountains and cooler weather here in the valley. The sun is out this morning, so it might be a bit warmer today. I love getting the rains, but sure not used to chilly weather!

SO! Is anyone else having trouble signing in here? It takes me 3 or 4 tries to gain access....and I don't have the coolest temper on the block! Will check things out with the "contact us" person. Anyway.......Just dropped by to say HI to all. I have been busy getting everything organized and ready to paint. Pull out all of my old books and mags and sorted projects by how much I really wanted to paint them, then listed all of the supplies I would need, and here again having to buy all but one or two items online. Was in Michaels yesterday and noticed that all of their Delta Ceramcoat paints are listed as "clearance" so it looks like the are gone. The store had also moved all of the Crayola products and coloring books into the craft area. Looks like things are changing and not for the good.

I do have 3 projects finished and will post the pictures as soon as the camera charges.

Luvs...I have stopped with the eggs for a while, but need to do DD's soon, like before Easter which is on DH B'day. As to the river, I think our local officials are like Peter and the Wolf, they are going to cry "flooding alert" so often people won't listen to them anymore.

Cali...aren't sales just the greatest! I have been watching for some of the specialty brushes to go on sale but no such luck yet.

Anj...how did you trip go? Any pictures of your soaps yet? Will go check.

Hope everything is going well with Punk and where has our BeBe gone? Haven't seen anything from her in quite awhile.

Gotta so sand a bunch of stuff...back soon I hope!

Nope no pics yet. Photobucket is acting wonky. Every time I try to upload it takes me back to my login page. grrr. Apparently I'm not the only one having the problem. Will try to work around it or somehow figure it out. Having a birthday party today for my 11 yr old son. Made a super delicious Shepherd's Pie for a late lunch/early supper. ha Couldn't find a recipe online that I liked so I just made one up and it's soooo yummy if I do say so myself. ha And just made a yummy Chocolate Caramel cake for the birthday and we'll have ice cream with that later today. The kids are off for Spring Break this next week. Supposed to rain all week so that should be great being stuck in the house with them. ha I'm going clothes shopping for myself tomorrow so there is a little break for me. lol Anyway, let me go see if I can figure out these stupid pics. And Belle you are not the only one having problems logging in here either. I have that on and off too. ~Anj

Only have a few minutes before going to B-I-L for a get together.

Anj....your problem with Photobucket may have something to do with Flock shutting down. They suggest we find someother site to use, don't know for sure, but my pb is accessed through Flock.

Belle, I frequently have to log in now on here, but no other problems so far.

Anj, I've not done anything on PB for awhile now. I did get a new little bunny gift that I was going to share on Holidays--I'll let you know if I have a problem too.

The birthday food sounds yummy, I'm sure everyone had a great time. My diet is going pretty well, 5.6 loss the first week and 2.5 the second week. Woo Hoo! Heading in the right direction but a long long way to go yet!

I've been cleaning carpets, painting posts and shed door, trimming and fertilizing yard and plants, etc. I'm tired!

All of you take care and have a Happy Easter if I don't get back by here before then.
