Please suggest a wall color for this quilt
Comments (12)Hi! Les has a great suggestion, and I was in a similar situation not long ago. I purchased PB quilts (similar pattern as yours) for both my boys (ages 6 and 13 at the time) when we moved into our new construction. The walls were not yet painted, and I let them choose the colors. I gave them some general options, i.e. blue, green, tan, etc., and they both wanted blue rooms. I picked a matching slightly different blue for each of them. Now, I should mention that the blue colors don't exactly "go" with the rest of our decor in the house, as we used warm colors everywhere, but so what? They are only kids for a while, and what a neat way to let them be involved in making their spaces their own. The samples above are some great options....See MoreWhere to Sell One's (Art) Quilts: Wall Hangings (not Bed Quilts
Comments (1)Why limit yourself? Why not try them all? I would skip e bay, but you can check recent sales there and see what quilts have sold for. I'm betting it's a pretty low amount, but it's worth looking. I think you'll see more at $15 than at $150 or at $1500. Place a couple on etsy. Then tell everyone you know about etsy and get them to tell all their friends! Spend a Saturday hitting several street markets in the city and see where people are selling their art. Ask a vendor or two there what kind of permits they are required to have and how you go about reserving a spot. Think of it like any job hunting - it takes work and time to find out what's available. You're lucky to be in NYC because you don't need a car to get around. (and probably couldn't find a place to park one if you had it!). Start small and take a few of your favorite quilts to one of the street markets and give it a try. See what shoppers are looking for and how they react to your prices. Quilt during the week and evenings; work the market on the weekend when the shoppers are out in larger numbers. It's not a waste of your time because no one can sell your own product with the passion that you'll bring to it. It also lets you see and hear what buyers are interested in. "Gee I would love this if only it were pink!" Some of it will make you crazy but it's all worth hearing. Place ads in the free newspapers around the city. If you think your work is fabulous, take a few to small local galleries and ask if they are interested. Lots of small restaurants display art for sale, so why not a quilt or two? Doesn't hurt to ask. Take one to a artist's co-op. Even if you have to share the sale price, it's a way to get started and out in the marketplace. It's a good way to find out what people will pay for your quilts too. Tell all your friends that every time they have a party, you want to display at least one of your quilts. Someone at the party may be your next buyer or they might have friends who invest in art. Print up some postcards with a pictures of a quilt or two and leave stacks of them in all the bars and restaurants! Donate one to a favorite charity that's having a public event and let them raffle it off. Of course, your name as the quilter/donor would have to be prominently displayed! What great advertising! Hope at least one of those ideas works for you! Kate...See MorePine ceiling...what color should go on the walls?
Comments (14)All the trim and all the ceilings in our house are natural cypress. Our floors are wide t&g pine with a bit of stain to mimic older wood. There are no white walls here. Personally, I always feel like white walls with wood trim looks a little cold. I see it all the time, so it must appeal to others more than it does to me. YMMV. In our house, we have the following wall colors paired with the wood: foyer, hallways, study: Moonshine (Eddie Bauer color from Olympic) living room: Billiard Green (Olympic) kitchen & dining room: Blue (Ben Moore) master bedroom: Barn Red (SW) guest bedroom: La Fonda Antique Red (Olympic Historic series) son's bedroom: La Fonda Deep Blue (Olympic Historic series) IME, greens, reds and blues work very well with pine/cypress. Beige, cream, yellow and taupe are all rather tricky but not impossible. The Moonshine we have in the foyer is a very pale creamy yellow that just glows. It does very well with the woodwork, as well as serving as a buffer color between some of the other more dramatic hues....See MoreBen Moore paint- need green color to go with quilt...
Comments (19)Thanks so much for the recommendations. I'm going to look into several of these. He chose Dill Pickle for now and am struggling to find a neutral for the other 3 walls that compliment it. Any ideas? I'm using guilford in our home office, love it!...See Morecd7733
