Growing inside - how much would cost ?
Comments (8)keepitlow: I hope you've learned what you wanted to know because it sounds like I've hijacked your thread. I heat my greenhouse only enough to keep the citrus from freezing, 33F. I grow citrus, grapes, apricots, nectarines, plums, pluots, figs, and sweet cherry. This is my 5th crop and the production has been heavy from yr one as I planted trees already bearing age. Quality has been superb, the best I've ever eaten. I can pick something at peak quality every day of the yr. I'm in Alpine Texas at 4500 ft elevation and have ideal weather for this project. About 60/30F in winter and 90/64F in summer. I have a chilling period of about 60 days in Nov and Dec. The growing season is the other 10 months with highs in 80s and 90s. Nights are ambient or 33F. The climate is modeled after the San Joaquin valley of California. I bought the greenhouse. It has a double poly roof and is not very well insulated. But with an ave low near freezing and only heating to 33F, heating doesn't cost much. In a cold climate other options(like a three month dormant period in mid winter where you would only heat to the critical plant temperature for that stage of growth, so for three months only keep above zero)for fruit would make heating costs still reasonable. The Fruitnut...See MoreHow much do you think it would cost????

Comments (27)I'm guessing you end up with 50 ft of kitchen, counting appliances and island- 400 ft of flooring. Assuming you are moving toward the exterior of the house? That may make the gas line not a big deal. Don't see the structure as likely a big deal but then I haven't looked at it :) Venting out could be an issue. Then budget might look like (in thousands): Cab 50 ft kitchen 30-65 counter 8-15 electric 6-8 install 20-30 floor 400ft 6-9 structure 0-2.5 gas line 0.6-1.5 sink(s) faucet(s) 0.8-3 misc 1-3 venting 0.6-2 total 73-139 These are all off the top of my head- Hudson Valley NY. The most accurate are the cabinet numbers-still a guess based on my brands semi custom to can't get much better (but can spend more) Looking at the house my guess is the higher number is more appropriate. Then pick a number and talk with someone to see if they can do what you want for the number you want. If you end up doing it would love to hear back where it ended up- like guessing how many jelly beans in a jar :)...See MoreHow much would the materials for this door cost?
Comments (20)"You need good weather-resistant species of hardwood, properly prepared (jointed flat before planing) for door work. " Since when? Many doors are made of pine, fir, and other softwoods. Almost any solid wood door you purchase at a lumber yard is made from softwoods, including interior paneled doors. Hardwood doors are stain grade and much more expansive then the typical paint grade softwood door. They are also often special orders. It is the grade of the lumber that causes problems making doors from ordinary 2x lumber found at the lumber yard, not the species. Many softwoods have better shrinkage charecteristics than common hardwoods, especially having a closer match betwen tangential and radial shrinkage. Any larger hardwood dealer typically also carries higher grades of softwood lumber suitable for bulding furniture, let alone doors. Redwood and cypress are very good choices for exterior woodwork....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
