How do you hang your quilts?
Comments (26)Loved your idea Murphy. The quilt has been hanging for about three weeks and it is still there. LOL Here is a pic of the setup I used. I didn't glue the magnets on, I figured if they slid, I would do that then. But no prob so far. And here is the quilt. Thanks for everyone's input!...See MoreDo you have a Picture of your very first quilt?
Comments (21)I made several handquilted "quilter friendly" panel baby quilts before I actually pieced what I consider my first quilt. My son wanted a quilt made similar to a 2"x2" picture we saw in Quilter's newsletter magazine. The picture was a square wall hanging so I took that 2x2 picture my LQS and picked out 20+ colors of Kona cotton solids but had NO idea how much I needed so I got at least 1 yard of each!! (I am STILL using some of that fabric!) I found a pattern and started sewing after I cut all those fabric strips (yep, rotary cut). It is the size of a twin sized bedspread so it hangs down over the side of the bed. I hand quilted using black thread (on black fabric ... yikes!) Each black triangle has a pattern quilted into it as well as a stitch-by-the-ditch along each color strip! After 10 years the black Kona cotton has faded and the cotton quilting thread is breaking but it is still a really warm quilt to cuddle with. He's moved out and the quilt is still here because his grandma has made the queen sized bedspread quilt for him now. Sue/polardream...See MoreQuilted Postcards - have you made them or used them?
Comments (17)Dianne's link is the same one I was going to post, too. It seems to be one of the better ones. I'm just learning this, so I wouldn't feel comfortable teaching a class just yet. But doing a swap would be fun. Linda, you wouldn't even have to deal with the postcards, just swap addresses (like for Red's surprise your partner Christmas swap) and then each person could send directly to their partner. The postcards can be mailed without envelopes and should be taken to the post office and hand cancelled (with a letter stamp, 41 cents at the moment), but sometimes they want more for embellishments, etc. That would be a hassle for you to mail them all. Much easier for the swappers to just send them directly. Maybe a New Year's swap? I just think I'd be too booked up before Christmas. -_Amy...See MoreWill you have time to quilt or sew this holiday (US) weekend?
Comments (18)Linda can tell you are so excited about your new grandbaby almost here. Rosa glad the tornadoes missed you. We had Thanksgiving meal at my parents' house the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Last week we traded in our old RV and bought a new one on the way to tour NASA and spend time visiting with friends. I did manage to hand-piece 1 granny square quilt block on the trip and made several crocheted/ribbon bookmarks which will become Christmas presents. Got home Saturday afternoon and have been doing laundry non-stop since then, have my last load in the dryer now - yay! Got my desk cleaned off this afternoon so hoping to start cutting fabric for some saw tooth star pincushions later this week for Christmas presents. I have not mailed out a single Christmas card yet, but have a good bit of the Christmas shopping done. I started knitting a scarf this afternoon for my brother, but don't think I will have it finished by Christmas, that may turn in to a b-day gift for him later in the year LOL or a gift for him for next Christmas. As fun as traveling is, it is nice to be home with all my belongs around me aka all my quilting stuff around me. Would like to get the Christmas tree up later this week or next weekend. M-I-L (who lives with us) and I are planning to drastically down-size the amount of Christmas decorations - not counting the tree I think we have like 10 or so boxes of Christmas decor - it's accumulated over the past few years and we just don't use it all and have so many boxes in the shed - can't find everything we like to use. Hope everyone has a good week. Best to you, Sandra This post was edited by quiltingfox on Sun, Dec 1, 13 at 20:25...See MoreBecky
