Do you LOVE grey? Or are you choosing it because it’s what you keep seeing? I ask because grey is trending down and out. Warmer colors are what are coming into style so if grey is not something you have loved forever, you might want to rethink it.

I do really like gray. I think its a very versatile color. I think it can be pretty neutral and go with a lot of decor. I don’t mind about the trend. With that being said, I’m open to suggestions.

Of the two I would do the lighter. I think I would be inclined to look for a larger format tile myself.

You are thinking of maybe changing the granite or are you going to change it?

Before you rip out that floor, you should have a cohesive design, and not just keep picking individual items to replace. Unless you have a complete design, each individual decision forces you into even less choices for the next area to remodel.

You need to be picking the floor tile, possible counters and paint colors all together, if you want to end up with a design that your really love and not one that you were forced into due previous decisions.

Lynartist makes a good point on the sizes; consider using a 24x24. Something to keep in mind as well on the lighter tile, it is directional with its lines, so how will that translate through all the areas?

lynartist - I was looking at the 12 x 24 because I wanted a rectangle tile for a different look. I never thought of 24 x 24. I kind of wanted to stay away from the traditional squares

Chispa - I thought I needed to focus on one thing at a time. I figured floors were the biggest item. If I choose a gray tile, that would match with the granite I have now or the white one. I will take into consideration your suggestion and look at the bigger picture.

Skippack - sorry I don’t know what you mean by it being directional and what it would look like in the other areas?

What about combining more than a single tile for your floor? Look at more natural looking textures and mix more than one shade of gray. The natural looking (slate, soapstone, cast concrete) floor adds drama when it's used in a sleek minimal Kitchen.

I agree with chispa. People get in trouble when they do one thing at a time instead of thinking of the cohesive whole. We see it here all the time and it’s the reason people post asking why their new whatever doesn’t work

If you like a rectangular shape you can also find 24” x 48”. We have daltile ambassador in that dim in our kitchen.

Does anyone have experience with engineered hardwood? someone mentioned that to me. Is it easy to maintain?

Don't know about engineered wood, but wood is always a good choice.

I seem to be in the minority, but I really like the darker, especially in Groveraxle's mock-up. It looks like a textile look, which I am particularly partial to. Is it by any chance Daltile's Kimona Silk tile?

I do agree that it's best to have a plan before you start. Every choice you make will influence what options will work well in your subsequent choices. You don't have to pin down every detail, but you having a general vision will help avoid future problems. Especially if you have a particular idea for the color or pattern or style of some item that you won't be installing until later.

I really like the darker too, especially with the current countop and backsplash...

I like the lighter one much better. The pattern is more natural. The texture of the darker gray looks way too modern for an entire floor, and looks more like an urban shower tile.

Engineered hardwood is great imo. Maintenance depends a little on what surface finish you go with, there are some options for finish as well as sheen levels. Oiled floors will need more maintenance but many feel they age better and are easier to fix in case there’s a little damage somewhere. We have an engineered hardwood in oak installed in our home (other than in the kitchen and wet rooms. )This particular one had a click lock system so doing a floating installation was a breeze.
