Chicka, I don't know if they've flown yet, because each time I've checked lately, the camera is pointed at some blank place on the roof. The last few times I've seen the chicks, they were up on the tall ledge, though, so maybe the camera pointed at that blank area means they've taken off from that place! According to the link I posted above, they usually don't hunt on their own until about a month after their first flight. I thought I read somewhere that they stay at the nest sight (or with the parents) for up to a year after they hatch...but I'm not sure now. It's said that "the only time that a female would lay more than one clutch of eggs in a year is if the first eggs are lost or damaged before hatching or the chicks die in their first few days." Hope I get to see one of them fly SOME day! Brenda

BasilB I have a situation where I need a holding tank sort of too so I am anxious to see the replies to your post. We have sold our current home where I have a pond with about 12 goldfish that are between 4 to 7 inches long. I have had all these fish for about 7 years now and feel very responsible for them. I am concerned for their well being as The new owners have indicated they "don't know what they will do with the pond...how hard is it to fill in...etc" So at this point I must get the fish moved with me somehow. problem is I am having to completely move myself and daughters (close move-only about 10 miles down the road)as my husband is deployed. I am not able time wise(or skill wise..haha) to build a new pond right now at my new home. Any ideas out there for a container/way, etc to keep my fish safe,alive for about a month until my husband is home for a few weeks? I have about 3 weeks to make a plan but I am stumped because of the number of fish and their size. Thanks all momof3

Excellent news! Neighbor called to say that bird had left the homemade "nest"- it was sitting on a coneflower. We watched it as we weren't sure if it was strong enough to fly. When I moved around to look at the "nest" - it was perched on a near-by shrub - the bird took off! We think we've spotted its true nest in a nearby sycamore tree. Maybe the bird stunned itself this a.m. by flying into sidelight of neighbor's door- the door is about 12-15 feet from where we originally found it.

Awesome! I love it. I was coming down the stairwell at my parking structure this morning when what met my eyes? A poor terrified opossum! I called our plant ops people to come get them. Could you imagine getting a call like that?! Downtown parking structure and you have to pickup or guide an opossum down four flights of stairs? How would you do it? I love how he got the deer out. He's a good operator.
