Hi- thought I would show you my new babies!
Comments (6)Sorry for the glare-- didn't even notice it till now. OK- as far as I can "see" (microscopic type on the tag) It is a Hoya Rubra-- Hoya Carnosa Variegata? lol-- will have to look it up. The holding pot is clay, hole in the bottom. Both plants were in plastic pots, the Bromelaid came in that pot-- just got it mixed up while looking at them. But the Brome is now in the clay pot. (is that ok?) And yes- I am "branching" out.. just don't ask me where I am going to put them all this winter. OR when they get bigger... these kittens will be cats one day! ;) (if I do right by them) Anyway- so far I like them. Seen something on clearance (not these ones) for .50. I had a hard time deciding just what ones I wanted, took these 2, had just enough for them both. Couldn't get the other .50 out of my "brother"! silly person anyway. Wanted me to look it up before buying it. Good Grief! It was only 50 cents! Oh well, I am hoping to go back tomorrow and see if it is there. And no, I havent looked it up yet! lol Some type of Cactus is all I know, but it was cool looking. ;) (only reasn to buy a plant) But I hope they will be happy here. Marjie :)...See MoreWhat are these?... I always thought they were rose slugs!
Comments (17)Lucretia 1, I don't think it's the syrphids and I didn't see anything else there that looked like it. Thanks for your help though. :o)) The first pic I posted was from Google, but it wasn't from a site that explained what the worm was... it was a stock photo site or something. Here are some pics I took this morning of the little culprits. ON THE STEM, ALWAYS NEXT TO A BUD, WITH ITS HEAD BURIED INSIDE AS IT HOLLOWS IT OUT... HERE IS THE DAMAGE THEY DO... MUGSHOT...(I couldn't get him to smile, with his wee beedy eyes!) BODY... HE THINKS HE'S CUTE... LOOKING FOR MORE BUDS TO MUNCH... To clarify, as long as I've been growing roses (10 years) I have always had these, I just assumed that this was what everyone was talking about when they mentioned "rose slugs". I thought that the REAL rose slugs were just some anonymous green caterpillar looking for lunch. If noone nows what these are, I will email Baldo or the "What's That Bug?" website to try to get an ID....See Morebaby-killer slugs
Comments (5)I see holes in my leaves, and that really peeves . SomethingâÂÂs maimed my plantains. But who can I blame? ItâÂÂs SLUGS. Not bugs, not thugs. ItâÂÂs SLUGS. So they gotta go. I wanna see âÂÂem Perform their death throes. Should I catch âÂÂem, or snatch âÂÂem In order to dispatch âÂÂem? Or salt âÂÂem to halt âÂÂem? The answerâÂÂs not clear. Maybe I should drown âÂÂem in A bowl of cheap beer. I could sprinkle the soil With bait to foil Leaving Guacamole With its leaves whole, not holey. SLUGS. They gotta go....See MoreThoughts on slugs?
Comments (15)I had a slug problem this year. They don't venture into my raised veggie beds, but they were eating my maragolds at the rate of 1 plant a night. They would eat it down to just stems! I tried the cups of beer. They do like it and I found dead ones in the beer, but they were still eating the plants too. Then some critter (possum, raccoon, ?) decided it wanted the slug tainted beer. I found the beer cups sitting on my sidewalk empty and the dead slugs scattered all around them. I finally resorted to organic slug killer (Sluggo type product) and that worked great. Within a few days the slugs were gone and I haven't seen them since....See MoreIris S (SC, Zone 7b)
