Wednesday's Wonders
Comments (17)That is so weird Brad KY . You are definitely south of me , Maybe it was a combination of things not just the plants themselves. although I am growing in really crappy Appin blue clay, a very heavy heavy clay . Very much like the kind of clay you make things with in a kiln. Actually ,through the historic society , I found out that at the road at the end of our property , 100 years ago there was a kiln there that they used to make the clay drain tiles the farmers used back then . That's how heavy the clay is here....See MoreWednesday's Wonders
Comments (10)Thank you all for looking and commenting. Nancy, Julia who wa the president of AHS a couple years ago posted photos of Jelly Roll Morton on her website. Single blooms are pretty, but clumps are stunning, especially when the petals and sepals curve heavily so you see the watermark really well. CSD ha been a good plant here, but Bob Selman's plants tend to do really well here. Debra, Ruby Lipstick was one I fell in love with when you posted it...I always enjoy seeing it bloom. Julia blessed me with the Hot Tamales and Red Hots and the color is really intense. Thanks, Kate. ACtually, Matis, it is supposed to be under four inches, but is a little over furinces here, more like 4.25 to 4.5 consistently. It is also one that blooms really well once established and re-blooms consistently here. Thanks, Sherry, I do too. Brad, I have always liked KCK, don't know if a lot of people do, but it is a pretty bloom and it is currently on re-boom as I said in the post. kay...See MoreWednesday Wonders
Comments (11)Mantis, I have tall ships in an incredibly bad place due to space constraints. It is supposed to be 38" it is usually in the 32 to 34 inch range, but the blooms are early open, flat and rarely splotchy. The color is very like my photo with the exception that it is slightly more lavender and less pink. The blooms are 6 to 7 inches, so up to list. Fried Green tomatoes is blooming quite well for a first year plant. The blooms are 5.5 " but recurve, the color is intense. It is precisely the 33 " it is supposed to be. It have bloomed well for a first year plant and the blooms open early and are perfectly formed and not splotchy. kay...See MoreWednesday's Wonders
