Started my red bed - anyone else?
Comments (5)My Red Bed disappointed last year, partly due to drought and partly my own doing. Already this year, I've had the splendor of 'Blackout' asiatic lilies. They kind of bloomed alone, but I can see them from the kitchen window and they are stunners. There were far fewer poppies this year; I'll try to remedy that in the fall. Daylilies are forming scapes: Kent's Favorite II, Little Business and Sammy Russell. I've planted several Castor Bean seedlings and have four more to place. Pride of Barbados has sprouts from the roots on two of the seedlings I planted last year, I'm excited about that. I have seedling red Porterweeds growing on to put out there for butterfly nectaring. When I look out the window, I see what it is going to be rather than the rather skimpy patch it is now. You will love 'Empress of India' nasturtiums -- at least, I do. They have dark foliage and the blossoms are scarlet. Mine are not in the Red Bed, they'll be leaving soon when the weather gets really hot here. Nell...See MoreIt starts. . . . Comments (15)Sandi The people you know that put the dishes in the dishwasher come out ok? I probably will just hand wash though. DH did like his mac and cheese! Slinkey Thanks! Yeah I really like the reindeer too. Hoping I can inspire someone in the family. I know the reason Mom has never been into it was because the extra money they had while we were growing up went to us kids . Im sure if she had unlimited funds she wouldve done more of that stuff. I know I would go wild. Ha Bright Thanks for the friendship ball info. I figured it had a name but didnt have a clue what it was called. Are they supposed to be ornaments? Come to think of it, I think I remember seeing those dishes at wal mart the other week and refrained that time. The reason I bought all that stuff at value city is because I know it wont be there too much longer. Its amazing how much that can influence your buying decisions. Luvs Thanks! Im really excited about the wreath! All the ones in the stores are skimpy looking. I know I could add stuff to them but I happened to see this one and just loved it. Valleymaypie Thanks! Acually thats ebay posted pic from the person who made it. My door is still white because I cant figure out what color to paint it. Heres the seller if anyone is interested. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=170275966166 Betty 34!? I cant imagine trying too cook for that many people! Paper plates would be my way to go too!! I plan on shopping the day after Christmas so Ill be buying lots of goodies. Plates will be on my list thanks to you guys! You have my wheels turning about the deer on the table. I was thinking of using them in my LR but I just may go buy some more. I would need another set for my second table. Youll have to post pictures of your tree too. Were using blue on ours also....See MoreAnyone else a RED freak?
Comments (67)florantha suggested resurecting this thread to post my kitchen wall. Here it is: Love the red accent. It is SW Poinsettia. We just finished an update of our 14 year-old builder kitchen. The housing market does not justify a total remodel, in our locale, which was our initial plan. Here's a summary of what we used: Dishwasher - Bosch, Whisper Quiet Refrigerator - Jenn-Air, Side-by-Side, cabinet depth Range - Jenn-Air, natural gas, slide in 4-burner with single oven plus warming drawer Sink - Soci, 16 x 28 x 10 undermounted, 15 guage Faucet - Blanco Disposal - KitchenAid, 1HP Granite - Cathedral Brown. We continued it onto the window sill and a new top for the side table. Backsplash - 4 x 4 stainless tile Paint - Cabinets: Cabinet Coat, White, semi-gloss. Walls: C2, Shaker and Fusion - both in Eggshell finish. Accent wall: SW Poinsettia From appliance shopping to completion of room painting took 37 days. We handled all the painting DIY. Because we had been considering a remodel or facelift for so long, decisions were fairly easy and we caught the granite fabricator in a slow time so the counters were installed in only 11 days. Comments (16)When we were kids my mom always blamed "Yehudi" for weird things that happened. The only gremlin in my sewing room is me...LOL...great timing for the question! Here's my story: I volunteered to quilt two group baby/toddler quilts. Lots of ladies made the blocks and sent them to the piecer. Someone volunteered to make the bindings and mailed them to me, another gal volunteered to make the backings and send them to me, then the piecer sent the tops when they were done. Now, I distinctly remember the bindings...there were 2 neat rolls of binding together in one baggie. Last weekend I got ready to quilt the first one, since I had received the tops a few days before (the binding and backings had come a few weeks previously). I opened the baggie with the backings, and only one was there! So I emailed the lady who sent them - asked if she only sent one - were they in 2 packages and maybe the PO lost one? She thought she sent both; made 2 trips to fabric stores to buy more fabric, and express mailed it to me. Yesterday I was sewing the binding on the first quilt. I thought there was no way it was long enough for 2 quilts, but I couldn't find any more in my closet. Thought I remembered 2 rolls of binding...I started searching in the sewing closet when out of the corner of my eye, on the top shelf, behind some other tops, I spot bright blue fabric! ARRRGH! It was the original second backing, and inside that baggie was the second binding! I was so embarrassed to have to confess that! I guess I could try to blame it on a gremlin, but maybe I'll just use the blonde excuse (again). DUH. Donna...See Moremmmm12COzone5
