Comments (6)Lovely! I like the classic white tile and porcelain and how you used furniture pieces in the bathroom. I love that the storage at the end of the tub has pull-outs that can be reached from the toilet. Your custom sink and backsplash and counter are unique and beautiful. Yours may be the first bathroom sink I have seen in which a small or medium dog could be washed! That is a good thing! I showed your pictures to my DH because I am thinking of classic tiled walls with a chair rail for when we redo our bath in a couple of years. He liked it! I was expecting him to say, "too old fashioned." He did not, he said it looked nice. From him, nice is a compliment. He even liked your rows of listello. I was just at the Tile Shop's site the other day looking at the Hampton tiles because someone was selling some on Craigslist. I am hoping to do as you did and get what I can cheaper there, and fill in the rest from the store. I can see that you worked very hard to secure all of your materials - and then cut the floor tiles to size and culled the Hampton tiles, too! You succeeded very well in getting the look you wanted while saving money along the way. Congratulations, and thank you for the pictures and great detail and supply list....See MorePlease help me pick bathroom flooring (pics)
Comments (33)I have the Daltile octagon and dot in my bathroom too: And now here's where I will get myself into trouble...I love the look but hesitated for a long time because EVERYONE warned that it would be very hard to keep clean, the grout would look nasty soon etc etc etc. Thing is, using dark grout on white or light tile because it 'won't show dirt' to me is like saying okay, let's just make it look dirty from the get go. What I ended up doing was going with my heart and putting in white grout with my white floors. Then, before I started using the room I applied white Aquamix grout colorant and 2+ years later, everything looks just fine and dandy. I will say this isn't a bathroom that gets abused by tons of people or messy kids (it's a master and mostly my daughter and I use it) but it does get used daily. I even have the tile w/white grout in my shower and it's still looking fine as well. I mop weekly and in the shower I use some Soft Scrub with a dilute bleach spritz and it all has held up quite well. So my long winded message is that there are alternatives to just giving up before you start and grouting the dirt color into your floor :). Comments (53)Dottie - I could not have done this without an educated designer - it's not just about the design choices although I would never have come up with design choices as my brain isn't hardwired in those kinds of visually imaginative ways. I can appreciate things but I don't know how to pull them together and I wouldn't have the ability to figure out where to even start in terms of the sea of vendors. I am good about researching appliances and functions but get lost in the sea of visual possibilities :-) And I can't even imagine dealing with codes and such since Los Angeles is code crazy - I wanted to move some floor electrical outlets up a bit from the floor as I found it difficult to reach them when I had some hip issues so I was thinking about for the future - I was told that if I move a plug, the whole thing has to be rewired back to the panel box. And the darn kitchen sink has to be approved by the UL LOL - who would think a kitchen sink could be dangerous....See MoreMaster bathroom tiles - Help me Gardenweb/Houzzers!
Comments (22)Thanks for the suggestions, all. I spent the morning at three different local tile showrooms, collecting samples. We'll see if anything works. It's been a challenge to find a solid that coordinates, as the colors of the calacatta look tile are hard to pin down. I may have found a warm white field tile that would work, now I just need to decide how I feel about a white field tile for the floor. Just like ILoveRed, I also liked this tile because it was a nice mix of warm and cool colors. The tile kayca posted is beautiful - I think I recognize it from another recommendation I got somewhere, now I just need to see if anyone carries it locally. We're trying to stay away from just using a smaller tile for a few reasons. It's a fairly large space, so I'm concerned a small tile might look busy and out of proportion. The house also leans more contemporary, so while I love the marble, we're looking to balance it's more traditional look with a larger more modern size. And finally, we really don't want to have to worry about having lots of grout to clean. I believe the Vallelunga is probably fine for some, and if it was already in a house I bought I would probably add rugs, use slippers, and live with it just fine. Since I'm starting from scatch, though, it seems like I ought to be able to find a solution that doesn't require all that....See MoreKim Swanson
