Cabinets or Drawers / Your best cabinet or drawer??????
Comments (12)My kitchen reno was done before I found GW. So, I have 2 24" cabinets with slide out shelves and wish I had made at least one of them an additional bank of deep drawers. One cabinet is good for the height adjustability factor. I do love my slide out 15" cabinet. It houses paper towels and soda bottles on the bottom shelf and long boxes of foil, plastic wrap, parchment, plastic bags, silpat, etc. on the top shelf. There was supposed to be a third shallow shelf on top, but it got lost in the shuffle and it's still OK. The other cabinet I find very useful is the 12" cabinet with vertical dividers next to the sink. It houses cutting boards, dish drainers, cooling racks, cookie sheets, shallow bake/roast pans, and my ever faithful folding step stool right where I need them. It's very deep and holds a lot. I also love my corner Super Susan with no pole in the center....See Moreuneven upper and lower cabinets - how to end backsplash?

Comments (17)I would try tl determine the height difference in the room end to end. probably laser level. the cab on the left you provided a pic of will need to be shimmed on the right to flush it with the wall, and then ALL other cabs will need to be shimmed up to match, and who knows how high the last one will need to be shimmed? Are the cabs level now? If so, then shimming flush to the wall will throw off level. The pic you have shows all cabs already installed, so I'm unsure if you have any slack to increase the gap on the left and then use a heftier filler strip. If I had done all this installation and every cabinet was plumb and level, I would likely scribe a really thin filler strip for the left gap. Not ideal but better than leaving the gap or having to redo the entire thing....See Morekitchen cabinets and uneven ceiling
Comments (2)Everyone’s ceiling is uneven - everyone’s. It is Kitchen Cabinets 101 to scribe the middle piece of the crown molding so that it follows the uneven ceiling, but because it’s the middle piece, the rest of the crown molding disguises the uneveness of the scribed middle piece. One of our Kitchens Forum members Buehl described it better than me, so I am copying and pasting her explanation: A 3-piece crown molding consists of top & bottom molding all the same size throughout the kitchen. In the middle is flat "filler" piece that varies in height, depending on the ceiling height. By varying this filler piece's height, you accommodate the different ceiling heights w/o affecting the crown itself...this way the difference isn't noticeable. If you vary the top crown piece's height, it will be much more noticeable. In this pic the "Stock-S" piece is the "filler" piece...simply a flat piece of the same wood as the cabinets and finished the same as the cabinets. It is scribed to the ceiling and varies in its height in line with the variation in the ceiling....See MoreJeffrey R. Grenz, General Contractor
