uneven upper and lower cabinets - how to end backsplash?

Hello All!

Question on backsplash and any advice/likes/dislikes would be helpful. Unfortunately, poor planning has left me with a an upper kitchen cabinet uneven with its lower counterpart, and of course, in addition, the marble countertop also hangs over the lower cabinet, but again, not even with the upper. Husband feels we should end the run where the countertop ends, which is about three inches beyond the end of the upper. I really don't like this look and I would like to take the tile completely up to the crown mold, down to the base molding, and edge of the wall. (We will be going up to the crown in another area of the kitchen - specifically, behind open shelving and around the sink/ window area as well). The problematic run of cabinets is the end of a wall, if that helps. Obviously, this will create some small cuts, especially below the counter down to the baseboard, but I'd love to hear others opinions on this.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts...
