Help with flush-mount or semi-flush mount light choice
Comments (10)Thanks Cheerpeople. :) I went out to the new house and they were painting, so it was looking like a "real" house now, which gave me a much better perspective. Armed with tape measure and my circle of cardboard, I determined the diameter is fine. But as justgotabeme was saying, what surrounds it makes a difference. The lights would be next to a short wall from the ceiling because the room behind it has pony walls and open walls. But the "pony" wall continues at the ceiling and comes down 17" ish. That means the semi-mount fixture would hang almost as low as the end of that wall, and I'm afraid it will look too crowded. So I think the flush-mount is the way to go. I really do like the semi-flush one, but this area is adjacent to the foyer, which is going to have two very large chandeliers, and I don't want it to be so completely busy with multiple conflicting hanging fixtures that compete with each other! Thanks everyone, I really appreciate all the help....See MoreOpen floor plan and flush mount lighting help
Comments (11)What's wrong with the downlights you have? They seem appropriate for the locations. Maybe you need to just re lamp them. What type of bulbs are in the can lights? R series bulbs are usually installed by builders or electricians because they are the very cheapest bulbs they can purchase and should not be used in a home like yours. PAR bulbs even in an LED form will provide you with better quality light to highlight the gallery you have on the second floor. BTW you were ill advised on the lighting for your kitchen The barn doors for the pantry should either be painted white or stained to match your chairs The bead chandelier, though charming, is much too small for over that table and for this kitchen. Some type of linear chandelier would have been a better choice IMO I would have recommended you select the same style chairs for the table that you used at the counter The pendants over the island are too large to be hung that close to the edge of your island and hung too high over the island (for some reason in your photo the pendants don't seem to be the same distance from the edge of each side)...See MoreISO flush mount light suggestions for galley(ish) kitchen
Comments (7)track light installs where your current light is. Im not sure what the "this is a rental apartment and we are only able to use the spots where the current fixtures are." means but there are lots of options. i would suggest that for the kitchen https://www.lampsplus.com/products/pro-track-globe-brass-4-light-led-plug-in-track-fixture__67k76.html something simple like this in hallway https://www.wayfair.com/Wrought-Studio%E2%84%A2--Mager-1-Light-8-Simple-Globe-Semi-Flush-Mount-X111002949-L6086-K~W000991838.html?refid=GX433658446000-W000991838_1268382334_1268382335&device=c&ptid=904701342955&network=g&targetid=pla-904701342955&channel=GooglePLA&ireid=73447144&fdid=1817&PiID%5B%5D=1268382334&PiID%5B%5D=1268382335&gclid=Cj0KCQjwk8b7BRCaARIsAARRTL6LxvChFugPao-PmvBUq-rnOj8qNVJguVJBYXaKN1J-YFwQLL4bLzgaAmwHEALw_wcB...See MoreHelp on replacing recessed can light with flush mount
Comments (4)Sorry I did not watch the electrician do this, but we covered up several 6” recessed lights from the 1980s with either flush mount large enough to cover the holes, and some replaced with pendants or semi-flush. It didn’t take the electrician long & was a non-issue supporting the new fixture and was not an unusual request for them. I had some ”conversion kits” for recessed-to-surface mt on hand just in case, the electrician only used one where the new pendant fixture was smaller than the gaping 6” hole and it avoided drywall patching....See Morembbrown3
