Do you arrange for a plant-sitter when you go on a trip?
Comments (13)Thank you all for making me feel a little less neurotic. We went out of town for 3.5 days last week. I left watering instructions for the cat sitter, along with a detailed drawing of an Earthbox copied from the website so she couldn't possibly misunderstand. We really didn't even need the cat sitter for that short period. However, I worried about the tomatoes and seriously considered calling to have her come a second day to water them. Heck, I wanted her to come EVERY day! But everything turned out okay. The water hadn't all evaporated, and the plants were healthy and happy-looking. The sitter left this note: "Cats were glad to see me -- you have fine tomatoes." What a remarkably observant woman! Thank goodness we take our big vacation in the off-season. This is my first year growing tomatoes; all indications are that the neurosis is going to get worse with time. Christine...See MoreHow many pets do you have?

Comments (15)When my petsitter was with the service I found her at, the charge was $9 for each walk & water. Overnight was $35. My petsitter now only sits for two families. We pay her $40 per day and a generous bonus. I always try to send her a cool postcard from our destinations. I also buy her something personal as a gift upon return. Last big trip, I found her a really nice wool sweater in Iceland. She loved it:). I also gift at Christmas When she got re-married two years ago, DD and I put a gourmet basket together with a good bottle of wine and two wine goblets to go with the goodies in the basket. I sometimes can only come up with a t-shirt, depending on where we are - at the beach there's not much of a selection of something she really could use. I stock the house with diet coke - her fav. we don't drink it, but I buy plenty for the fridge when she's coming. I also stock fridge and pantry and leave a first night's meal only to be heated. Nice clean sheets on the bed, and a little "tolietries surprise" on the bed. I actually enjoy getting ready for her to come. I really appreciate what she does for my family, since she treats my animals as I would and that in my book is priceless....See MoreDog sitter vs. daycare
Comments (8)Well, we've been mostly home for two weeks, and she is on somewhat of a schedule. Ultimately, I'd like for her to go on a good walk / run in the morning with me, play with the kids until they leave for school, relax from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., then walk / play outside with us in the evening. But she is not quite 10 weeks old yet, so the "relax at home from 9 - 3" portion of the schedule will probably not be achievable for several months or more. So in the meantime..... Is is realistic to expect the puppy to adhere to the pet sitter's schedule? Maybe you were thinking she was a bit older? Normally she whines when she is in her crate and wants to go out. Today, she wet in her crate - I'm thinking she probably whined, then, because no one was immediately there, wet in her crate. :( The vet is $14.50 per day, the pet sitter is $12 every time she comes over. So the vet would initially be cheaper, but once she can go 3 hours between visits the pet sitter would be cheaper. Not sure how long that will be??...See More3katz4me
