I put a bidet in the last house we built...but not this latest one as I found I just didn't use it enough to justify the floor space or cleaning it. I love the *idea* of them, and have seen them in other parts of the world but found I usually just took a shower (on the theory that if part of me needed washing, the rest could probably use it, LOL.) Too much information? ;~) I saw a thread a long time ago discussing pros and cons of bidets...folks with babies or toddlers used them after changing diapers or toilet training accidents. Some folks just liked that "extra fresh and clean feeling" from using them at various times. ;~) They are a kind of nice personal hygiene convenience...but another thing they are good for is pedicures! Perfect height for soaking your feet or washing off cuticle remover. They are more common in other parts of the world...our "American habits" of once or twice a day showers, plentiful water, large bathrooms with private bathing facilities aren't as much the norm in some places. With a bidet and a sink, you can do a very creditable "freshen up" bath of all the important parts. LOL Since you have a while before you can really remodel, why don't you just try using the thing and see how it feels after a while? It's a pretty cool bathroom with good decorating options...I would be tempted to just change fixtures and paint (as others have suggested) and enjoy!

Thank you everyone!! I should clarify, I wouldn't mind the tile if the white was actually white, it's just more of a worn/cream/off white type color which is throwing me off a little bit. I do like the idea of adding a pop of color - I'm just one of those people that's usually afraid of color! So I first went for white and black and got a little disappointed. Loving the teal/aqua recommendation though:) thanks again everyone!

I'm all about quirky, but there's a fine line between quirky and crazy cat lady. You want it to look cheerful but still dignified. "More color and pattern" does not equal quirky. It equals Sanford & Son if you're not careful. I have a craptastic 50s bathroom that we're redoing on the cheap and I like a playful aesthetic too (think Wes Anderson's "The Life Aquatic" in bathroom form), but I'm being cautious about ensuring some of the basic finishes (flooring, wall tile, vanity) match and are neutral in shape and color. I can go nuts with wallpaper (GREAT idea), paint, grout, artwork and linens...but the floor and any other tile in the room are gonna be a "basic bitch" so we can sell the place someday. I'm trying to get a sense of what you're working with, here. Just so it's clear: you're doing a white barn door, a plain white vinyl pop-in shower/tub, vinyl marble-esque ("mar-belle" as my mother calls it) tile (square or rectangle? what size?), and drywall on the walls? No wall tile, etc. What kind/size/color style vanity do you have and are you also putting in lighting or other fixtures? If you have a barn door and are innately gravitating to cows and buffalo check wallpaper (which you appear to be doing), you're a Joanna Gaines Farmhouse Person whether you like it or not. Embrace it, it still works and the look is everywhere and therefore affordable. Black and white is an excellent idea. Do whitewashed barnwood (removeable) wallpaper to match your barn door. Add a pop of Russian Red or teal paint and you're good to go. I think the barn door is gonna define the space more than anything, and the whole Mexican/Talavera tile thing is just gonna look bizarre (...and I love talavera...).

mine are 4x12. You could go larger,,,they have some solid white at 8x16 on tilebar. doing a 3x6 just means more grout lines. this one I just finished for a client was also 4x12, but had a hand-made, wavy look to them1x4 herringbone mosaic was done on the inside floor. tiles on the outer floor are 12x24. this is a small bathroom
