What about a taupe or greyish blue? You could also do a grey toned green like SW swelte sage.

Is that black trim? For a fun rich look, how about a medium chocolate? Then use a lighter brown towel and natural wood accessories, or add a color, say teal, or deep green, or rust, whatever catches your eye -

You don't say how big the bathroom is. Is it a large bathroom?

I love black it is one of my favorite colors. Have you ever seen black & white ticking? As in mattress ticking? I think a good looking wallpaper ticking would look good. I happen to like pedestal sinks w/great faucets. And how about a large distressed white or black armoire for storage? Add some things like sleak towel racks. A mirror with extendable arms, rolled towels (white white) in a basket. Put black and white modern photo's on the wall. And put in lots of candles and maybe recessed lights. Great looking bottles all shapes and sizes. I like to mix old and new together. I think it's a nice look.

If you have lots of white windows in there, which you probably don't. Paint the bathroom black, it sounds awful, but it is very good looking.

I have my downstairs bathroom painted chocolate brown and love the color. I am thinking of doing my bathroom upstairs black at least the wainscoting.

At least the main fixtures are in black and white! Think about switching out the faucet if necessary. Switch out any lighting if necessary too -- those change will really update the room!

Paint color really depends on you -- perhaps a pale blue? With black, white and blue towels. Add black-and-white photos (matted in white and framed in simple black) for a more updated look.

OR go for a blue-green like Restoration Hardware's "Silver Sage" or Benjamin's Moore's "Gray Wisp" Switch the blind to a bamboo blind. Again -- go for simple strong artworks like the black-and-white photos to balance out the strong visual "weight" of the floor area.

Or go for a "warmer" look with a neutral like Benjamin Moore's "Stone House" or "Spice Gold" -- then add dark brown, black and white towels -- and the bamboo shade to the window. Add darker woven baskets around the room for more warm texture.

Well, I don't know what your tastes are, but we have black marble and white fixtures in our master bath and our walls are a silver pearl color and we love it. It keeps it neutral and I can add any color with towels and accessories.

I love the tile, and actually I like the counter also. I'm such a retro person. The tile gives off a homey feeling. If it's in good shape, I'd keep it if it were me.

If you're going for a gut in the future, I'd try a blue in there, either warm or cool, with silver or black accents.

It would look fine with the chrome and you could use this time to find out what you really want in the future. If you find yourself not liking the mix, then you will know what direction to go with your remodel.

Thank you. Hopfully I'll have some by the end of this weekend of it almost finished anyway. It, like pretty much the rest of our home, is a work in progress. We are the contractors and moved in five years ago with much to do and are still plugging away at it.
Incase you didn't see the before of that cabinet some months back here's what it started out as. Cheap wood look vinyl laminate. I added trim around the top and bottom along with beadboard to the sides. I've yet to find chrome knobs for it.

Ooooo - how about pale pink?

You could glam it up by adding that funky venetian style mirror from Target that was posted here the other day, or go with this slightly less elaborate one from Ikea:

I would definitely prime and paint your vanity, including the integrated handles. You could then add different hardware (I swear I have seen this done and it does not look stupid, provided the old handles are painted out). You could also add some decorative sconces on each side of the mirror.

I think your bathroom is cool!

I put a bidet in the last house we built...but not this latest one as I found I just didn't use it enough to justify the floor space or cleaning it. I love the *idea* of them, and have seen them in other parts of the world but found I usually just took a shower (on the theory that if part of me needed washing, the rest could probably use it, LOL.) Too much information? ;~) I saw a thread a long time ago discussing pros and cons of bidets...folks with babies or toddlers used them after changing diapers or toilet training accidents. Some folks just liked that "extra fresh and clean feeling" from using them at various times. ;~) They are a kind of nice personal hygiene convenience...but another thing they are good for is pedicures! Perfect height for soaking your feet or washing off cuticle remover.

They are more common in other parts of the world...our "American habits" of once or twice a day showers, plentiful water, large bathrooms with private bathing facilities aren't as much the norm in some places. With a bidet and a sink, you can do a very creditable "freshen up" bath of all the important parts. LOL Since you have a while before you can really remodel, why don't you just try using the thing and see how it feels after a while? It's a pretty cool bathroom with good decorating options...I would be tempted to just change fixtures and paint (as others have suggested) and enjoy!

I actually love your bathroom pretty much as is (I would update the faucet and hardware).

To answer your bidet question...
While we don't have a bidet and won't have one in this house due to space and budget restrictions, we do have the "poor man's" version of one and I love it. What we have is a sprayer that retrofits into an existing toilet and performs pretty much the same function. The handy thing is that it doesn't require another big fixture (or additional plumbing) and you can do it "in place".

Laurie,I've still no extra pix of our bath, but since you like paris theme with pink....here's one you might find some inspiration from. It's for a fourteen year old so some is too youngish, but there's a lot you could find appealing I would think.
