Matching chairs for Hickory Chair table
Comments (5)Seems that it's quite the thing to have chairs that do not match the table. Having few, or none, that match is,I think, called "harlequin" look. If you are near a Borders or other book stores that encourage browsing, do some research there; it's a wonderful resource. Scour the decor books in the style you love. Without the matching chairs you now have the opportunity to have wing chairs or somesuch at either end...love that look. They are easy to find at thrift stores. You then fabric them as you like, having the seat cushion made higher than norm for better dining height. For the remainder ( 4?), either go unfinished, or, again, look for used and match up the bisque color and spray it on. Can add an antique glaze if you like. Some other color entirely might also look great. All will surely take some time and effort, but you will have a lovely and unique look....See MoreHelp finding matching chairs.
Comments (17)I had planned on painting the dining room and entry the same color as the kitchen since it's a straight shot all visible from the other. Plus I really like the color and I have an extra gallon and a 1/2 from the kitchen. Plenty for the dining room at least, but would have to buy more for the entry that is still on paper but hasn't yet been remodeled (hinging on the last section of wall to get a new footer dug and it won't quit raining!). The dining room is still primer white and it doesn't have to be the same color. The living room is a grey green with plywood walls. Don't laugh, we had crawling babies and crumbling plaster, it was a quick fix years ago and will be drywall after the last corner is jacked up and foundation repaired. You can kind of see the color in the picture of the table. We have a lot of taxidermy work in there and greens really look nice with it. Ideally, we'd have a den to hoard that stuff in, but you can only do so much with an old farmhouse. I've accepted that this is dh's room and will resist the urge to box up the hundreds of antlers and the tacky arrangement of everything if I can decorate the rest to my liking. He realizes that it will all have to go if we sell. He'll probably also downsize a bit when he realizes how many holes he'll have to patch in drywall. I'll admit that I have added a couple deer mounts, a fish, and some shed antlers to the room. I'm not innocent. In the beginning, I wanted a historically accurate home with small touches of things the two of us liked. Then we did the kitchen and threw all of that out the window. It is certainly not period appropriate and the brick wall doesn't go with the house, but I love it and don't mind that it sticks out like a sore thumb. I'd like to think the original lady of the house would approve of the update :) Anyways, I'm up for changing any paint color except the kitchen. All but the living room is primer white or paint that was originally here when we bought the house. Yellow and orange are the only colors that are off-limits....See Morematching chairs, matching tables...do your lamps match too ?
Comments (12)For 20 years, nothing has matched. And since I liked estate sale vintage lamps, all my lamps were different too. But about 5 years ago, I bought two matching lamps from JCPenney. It was kind of nice having the two lamps in the bedroom match, while being on unmatched antique bed tables and unmatched vintage furniture. It's like the lamps linked everything together. About 3 years ago, I found two more nice looking lamps at HomeGoods, these two with deep red shades, so I moved them into the bedroom, placing one on a rattan table also from HomeGoods, and one on a vintage sewing machine base, turned into a night table. My rattan bed was bought new off the net, my dressers bought at different times from estate sales, one is painted black and one is pecan. My mahogany desk came from a classified ad, and the leather desk chair came from Sam's Club. The two JCPenney lamps moved into the living room where they are the only two matching entities in another sea of furniture that works well together, but does not match. and that's the way I decorate.... Comments (4)It looks like there is a hint of gold or khaki in your chairs. I would lean toward a rug predominately in those colors with color texture versus a dominant print. Beautiful room....See MoreRachel H
