My husband will have the weather station playing on the tube and at the very same time I'll have my weather site up on the inet, and the two forecasts can be totally different, especially where precipitation are concerned. We seem to live in an area where the terrain changes considerably from that direction where the fronts normally sweep in. A county above us or to the left of us can be in a crisis snow or ice emergency and we look out the window at a gentle rain with the temps hovering just above freezing. Or vice versa. I remember a couple years ago going west to the next county to get our accounting done in late winter. There was this magic line not ten miles from our house starting at a state park, when we all the sudden encountered massive trees keeled over from a hideous ice storm we never received and large areas of ice from flooding. It was massive destruction and our accountant told us of being homebound over Christmas with no power for days. We were totally oblivious to the whole episode. Comments (3)That spider sure worked for his dinner. My own observation of this Tuesday morning. Nice, cool and overcast morning. Had three errands to run and got done before 10 AM. It is so nice to go out in cool weather. Have figured out that Tuesday morning is about the best time to run errands around here. Hardly any traffic and plenty of parking. Comments (42)Good to know you're back on better footing. It's a good lesson for all to sleep on the problem before you address it. That's a practice I always recommend. It allows you to cool down and respond correctly to the actual scale of the issue rather than the perceived scale of the issue that is always larger than life and emotional when first encountered. In other words, if this was the final labor on the project rather than just a prelim screwup that the GC hasn't even viewed yet, the scale of the issue would be much higher. You always want to save the escalated response to an inadequate response from the GC after he has had a chance, not the first response being volcanic. 20% for the material surcharge is for the time spent selecting the correct material, any associated required components, ordering the material, arranging for it's transport, receiving the shipment, inspecting it that it is correct and undamaged, and storing it so that it remains undamaged. Time is money and none of those services are free. ;) You'll pay it one way or the other, even if it's not specified in the contract. You'll pay higher labor fees, or you'll get less warranty, or something. The slack gets picked up somehow if the contractor is an actual business man and is going to actually remain in business. It's better to be above board with all charges in writing so you understand what goes into a remodel. If you elect to select and purchase your own materials, then you are the one responsible for all of the above and the contractor is no longer the point of warranty with the product....See MoreTuesday Tea...better late than never :)
Comments (4)Schoolhouse- I went and looked at my recipe...and it's not apple crisp, but similar. You have the oatmeal mixture on the bottom, then the apples, then a little more oatmeal on top. It's so good! Here's the recipe :) Oven at 350. In a medium mixing bowl, combine: 1 cup flour 1 cup oats 3/4 cup brown sugar 1/4 tsp. baking powder 1 stick butter or margerine (1/2 cup) Take out 1/2 cup to save for top of dessert. In a medium saucepan, combine: 2 medium apples, peeled, cored and chopped 2 tbsp. water 2 tbsp. lemon juice 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon Dash of nutmeg Dash of cloves Bring to boiling, reduce heat and simmer (covered) for 8-10 minutes. In a square 9" x 9" (or 8" x 8") pan, press the remaining flour/oat crumb mixture into the pan. Spread apple filling on top and sprinkle reserved (1/2 cup) crumbs mixture on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes until top is golden brown. Cool and then cut into bars (makes about 25) and this is so good with tea! Also could have ice cream with it, but I like it plain. It's not dry, so you don't have to put cream or ice cream over it. This is almost the same recipe as BH&G dessert recipe, with just a few changes :)...See Morelilykate7a
