I don't know what is going on.
Comments (4)If the fish dies the other fish will eat it, Of course that just adds to the mystery. Was it natural or something else. Fish will get so frenzied when they spook that they will just up and die. They may be panic stricken by the heron overhead. You can generally tell if the fish are being hunted because they hide and generally become very skittish. A coon will grab the fish from the edge, which if you have friendly well fed fish is not that hard, they will come right up looking for a hand out, until they learn the hard way. Hope this helps....See MoreSo let's say I don't want to go the Wolf range route...
Comments (25)Kitten, I'm with breezy on this. Forget the brand name or any perceived pretension that comes with it. Assuming it fits your budget, the main factors you need to worry about are is it reliable and does it meet your needs? This is your kitchen and you need to live with and use it on a daily basis. I ended up with a 48" range. One of my design goals was to maximize counter and storage space. I started out wanting wall ovens, but that sacrificed counter space. The 48" is a good compromise, because although it is 48" wide, it can double up as counter space as needed. I have a cover over my grill and I routinely use it and adjacent unused burners for either mis en place or plating. It's also a great landing area for items coming out of the oven. Depending on your counter material, you have zero worries about hunting for a trivet. You should also reconsider whether you really need a DF range. I have an AG and I don't miss any of the electric features in a main oven. I admit, I do also have a GE Advantium which does have all the whiz-bang features. But it needs those features to work properly. When it comes to the oven, it's just set the temp and bake or roast. It is a minor inconvenience that there is no auto on/off or timed cooking feature. But that just means I have to hang around. The upside is that I have zero fears about using the self-clean feature of my oven because there are no digital electronics to fry. Do go through the exercise of redesigning with a wall oven. But don't let superficial concerns drive you to go in a direction that doesn't meet your needs....See MoreI don't know what color cabinet would look best
Comments (5)I would agree that matching the cabinets to the dining room would be too much. Wood that is all the same just blends in the background. Your cherry will look more lovely if the kitchen is something different and vice-versa. Different wood tones together is normal - especially because these will never be "touching" (I think you have to be more careful to make sure floors and cabinets don't clash.) If I were you I would go to the cabinet place and forget about the dining room. Open your mind - consider all they have in natural or stained wood - and pick something you think is beautiful and go from there. If you want something lighter, consider maple natural or with light stain. Cherry is always beautiful, but a little more expensive, but try natural or other tone that you just love. And oak gets a bad rap but with the right door style and finish, the grain can be striking. Good luck....See MoreNative's always grow best? I don't think so!
Comments (22)Richard, it is your last sentence which really tells the tale. So many mycorrhizal preparations have had meager research results and it seems likely that getting the fungi to survive in their new home is a large part of it. This is a rapidly changing field of investigation though, and I can report that "helper bacteria", which appear to set the table, so to speak for the mycorrhizal organisms are being looked at. We talked about that complexity earlier and this is one such area of further detail that is being worked out....or at least that's the goal. The other stumbling block is that strains of these various mycorrhizal fungi can be host-specific. Not in every case mind you, but for some plants, there is one and only one fungal partner. So take larch for an easy example: They appear to "work with" the bolete (a type of mushroom) Suillus grevellei almost exclusively. And Suillus grevellei may not partner with an adjacent species. Not wishing to talk out of my depth here, I'm going to leave it at that. I may be interested in this stuff and have been for decades now, but I'm no mycologist, and should one wander in here, they could perhaps see some problems with bits that I've written. Overall though, this is what appears to be happening. I do not see any harm however in "inoculating" with a bit of forest soil. First, by volume, it's too little to get you into all the stuff we usually decry in soil amendments. Second, it just might work in some fashion............who knows?...See MoreHU-433193763
