Paint or stain new pressure treated wood substructure of deck?

We just had a new deck built and the builder is strongly advising us to paint the green / pressure treated wood that was used for the substructure. This wood is visible as the deck is a 2nd story one with a hang out area underneath.

I don't like the solid look of paint, and when I think of paint on wood, I think of peeling and flaking and lots of maintenance.

He says we 'shouldn't' stain the pressure treated wood.

Can anyone advise on this? The last thing I want to be doing in a couple of years is sanding off a bunch of paint. Is there something I'm missing? Is he right?

Also, what product would you advise we use for a beautiful, long-lasting finish? We get a ton of sun where we are.

thanks!
