Excuse me for saying all this but there is nothing traditional or classic about the houses I've seen pictured(off graywings post).All of these houses look like plastic toys. Roofs that simulate shakes,plastic shutters that are functionless screwed flat to the facade,compromised trim profiles many made of plastic,door designs that are some off shoot...Modern(Casement)windows on a in general Colonial shape.These are all fake looking. Looking to match the neighborhood....oh no.. If you are planning to sell your house I'd save the expense,dirt and waste of life and sell it as is. In the meantime go to a book store (B & N in a good area will have some),look at historic sights and see what a Colonial house is supposed to look like. Look at Colonial Williamsburg site pictures. Paint colors...look at Pratt & Lamberts Williamsburg Colors. Originally paint colors came from a "down to earth/real" material, and these colors simulate those colors. Best wishes

@cpartist Thank you for your design ideas. I appreciate the time you put into making the diagram. It does definitely make the house look less busy and emphasizes the entry. We do like more of a craftsman look which makes the board and batten work for us. Unfortunately, it is too late to make changes to the layout. The lap siding and board and batten are already installed. The stone is not installed yet, but we actually removed the stone from front of the house replacing it with lap siding and will just be keeping it around the pillars and surrounding the front door. I understand what you mean about a lot going on. I do like the interest in varied textures, but I do feel that effort must be made to not make it look too busy. I think i should either go with one color or just the shingles in a slightly darker color and the rest one color. Would that be your recommendation to simplify? The front door will be a stained wood door.

Painting the siding a dark color makes the house look top heavy above the light colored stone. I get the impression your stone has a lot of golden warm tones in it, so cooler grays are not really working, IMO. Which of your pix is the closest to reality as far as color goes? Of course, color is in the eyes of the computer screen too. If you can load a pic of your house into some of the major paint company sites, they often have an app that will pick colors based on what is already there.
