granite counter-top seams ... are we being too picky?
Comments (44)These are my pics of my countertops placed Friday June 22, 2018. I cried looking at these seams. It looks so cheap. Fabricator explains that's the way it comes. I explained that I shouldn't be able to see the seams so clearly. It looks so unprofessional. They ended up taking them back to their warehouse. In hopes they say if it is quality control will try and fix it just to make it look better. Otherwise I will have to pay an additional fee for them to come out again to install. I just don't know what to do and if still looks the same. This is the first time I've replaced my counters in 24 years. I don't and can't live with it. looking at this for another 24 years. It looks so cheap and it really was not it's a lot of money to me. I hope fingers crossed that they will fix this problem. They never told me that there would be such seams. I thought the edges were done by a machine and it would be all one piece. I have read up on this and now understand there are seams. But now I do know that they should not look like this. If they are good fabricator you shouldn't be able to see them so clearly. I will find out next week what happens....See MoreCut Corian countertop to accomodate slide-in range?
Comments (6)Corian is aluminum oxide (sapphire) loaded plexiglass. Corian can be cut with high surface speed carbide tools such as router bits and high-tooth-count carbide-tipped circular saw blades with plastic cutting profiles. In both cases means are needed (in my view, Corian artisans may differ) to assure (trap) the tool so that it is restrained as to where it can inadvertently go. Anticipate a lot of dust. All cutting tools should be considered sacrificial in the long term. For one-time efforts like this, it would likely be more economical to have a Corian counter specialist do the work unless one is a tool hound and believes that every acquired tool will come in handy sometime in the indefinite future. kas...See MoreSlide-in range countertop cutout sizing?
Comments (6)Some brands (like Bosch) are full depth and do not require the strip in the back. (I had to remove mine). In addition, different brands have different height ranges. In my case, again, it was an issue since my counters are lower than standard due to new hard wood flooring added on top of the existing floor. My suggestion is that you first narrow down which ones you like, and then carefully look at the installation manuals. AJmadison have them and are easy to download. I had narrowed it between Bosch and Samsung but only Bosch worked (barely!) with the height of my counters....See MoreSlide-in range not resting on top of countertop
Comments (14)I have the induction model and the install instructions specifically state that it shouldn't sit on the countertop, that it should be slightly above not touching it. I looked that up because i dropped something on my new stovetop and broke it. When the guy came out to replace it, he told me that it shouldn't have been right on the counter, that is most likely why it broke. I double checked with both the manual, and a counter guy who happened to stop by for something else because I want to minimize the chances of breaking it again....See MoreUser
