Sorry...Another Whacked Jade Story & Pics
Comments (45)Thanks Smoochas!! Honestly, I really don't know what I'm doing,lol...I'm one of those that cut...and then wonder if I've done the right thing? Josh is giving you the right advise. I really need to follow his advise for the next "whacking"...He knows what he's talking about. PG is right about rooting taking so long especially in this heat. I had a small cutting that took over four months to start putting out a "few' tiny roots and that was in the fall/winter(which is the best time for me to root Jades) ...its very hard to have patience believe me I know. I wasn't blessed with much. Don't give up and good luck!...See More(Pics) Another 'Whacked' Jade Update
Comments (102)Thanks for the ID's PG and CactusM!! I had the Echeveria in full sun up until the last month or so...our temps have been in the 90's and above, so I've moved it in bright indirect south wall for now to give it a little shelter from the brutal sun. That last picture had a bloom spike(the flowers have sinced died off) I think it was white? You can see that long thin spike on the plant. I wonder if I should cut it off now that the flowers have died?...See MoreAnother big Jade.
Comments (11)Some members of my church congregation helped clean up the yard of a member in her 80s. She and her husband had bought the house in the early 60s and she planted some jade plants in the back yard. 50 years later she had a forest of plants 7+ feet tall with trunks 8 inches thick....See MoreNew project: Dismembering these Jade Plants
Comments (18)Update time! I've begun watering the plants occasionally and lightly. New growth is popping up everywhere. Tiny, but definitely there. This is why I love Jades. I don't know of any other plant that is this easy except perhaps Sansevieria, haha, but propagating those appears to take an eternity. I once placed some cuttings into a pot, and a year later, the three cuttings were still there, alive and looking exactly the same as before. As I was tossing them, I just checked to see if there were roots and there were plenty. It just didn't plan on doing much else. But Jades... plant 'em and they grow. My kind of plant. This was one of the last pots I made with the larger stems. Not sure where I'm going with this but we'll see, I guess. The best part is that five other people have about 10-15 cuttings each from just these plants. I didn't even touch my other jades to supply those, so it makes me happy to know that two plants provided that many new plants to other people. For me, plants are like food. Food is great on its own but really, the greatest joy is in sharing that food. I've "dismembered" so many of my plants that my mother shakes her head at me asking why I bother growing plants if I'm going to make them all so ugly by chopping at them to give them away. It's a valid point, but where's the fun in keeping all of it for myself in pristine condition, right?...See Moretropicofcancer (6b SW-PA)
