Mid Century Modern open floor plan...design ideas? Please help me!!!!!
Comments (6)This is my living room....11ft wide by 19ft long (from the stairwell.) We are struggling to find a furniture plan that will work with this long and open living room. The picture is taken from the front door entry. On the left wall (which you cannot see) is a large living room window 4'x8'. We are hoping to have a built-in constructed wall to wall on the far end of the living room. Cabinets on the bottom, shelving on the top, and an opening for our media. We need the storage for our young family of five. Around the stairwell to the right is an open doorway to the kitchen. On the far back right is the dining room--which is open to the kitchen. Right now we have a very small sofa (~50") floating at the closer end of the room. Two chairs are to the left under the window. It works but it feels like a waiting room! I'd like to have a console table on the narrow wall to the right (between the opening to the dining room and walkway to the kitchen.) I'd like to have this room sit 4-5 people as we're planning on finishing the basement to represent more of a lounge space for the family....See MoreCladding addition to Mid Century house
Comments (11)"Why isn’t the building on the left front of the alcove plus the garage sufficient space for full cladding as an accent?" It is and would be considered an accent and perfect for it it will however not be inexpensive. Trim or accent pieces are always more expensive than what I called a money wall (large straight flat wall where the installer can make some time installing the panels)....See Moreneed help with exterior design of mid-century home!
Comments (16)it's a really cool door! a little too "flower power" for such a sleek modern exterior, but painting it will make it look better and be a nice holdover until you could afford a new door. (and keep the old one, I really do love it. maybe it could be repurposed somewhere else.) I'd suggest a new handle set too. updated but not too modern (anything too hard edged might look odd with that flowery design). such as this one from kwikset? I think it comes with a keypad version too if that's what you want. you can always relocated it to the new door when if that gets replaced....See Moreneed help with paint to compliment mid century red mahogany trim
Comments (7)Thanks Adriel. The color wheel has been helpful. I have figured out that I need a paint with orange undertones to counteract the very cool blue light coming in the large north facing windows. At the moment, I’m leaning toward SW Moderate White. I’ve also determined that I need different colors for different parts of the house because the light is so drastically different. Probably SW Pearly White. I was hoping to get away with one whole house color. I may end up painting or staining the red mahogany later because it is just too red/orange for my taste....See Moredecoenthusiaste
