What is the tree? Can the limbs close to the house be pruned? Are there other trees out of sight of the photos that are casting such a deep shadow?

I would replace the rotting trim and paint it charcoal. I would paint the two windows on the left black.

You can add concrete pavers directly to the front door from the street. This will put more visual emphasis on the entry, even if the walkway is infrequently used.

from what I can see, that house is really beautiful and interesting as-is, honestly I wouldn't do much. refresh what needs to be touched up -- such as painting the trim. keep the wood siding, but if it looks worn, it might need to be sanded and re-stained.

I think more than anything, the landscaping could use some help.

I wouldn't paint the bricks. I'm all for painting, but only if the brick color is ugly. you have nice classic red bricks, totally fine as-is.

I can't tell what the front door or lighting look like, but you could update those if you want to add your own touch.

Thanks for all the comments!! Loving the advice. Here is an up close picture of the front entrance and pictures of all the trees obstructing the sunlight. Apparently the trees we have on the property are: a Texas live oaks, China berry trees, elm, cedars. Not sure which is which here though…

I'm wondering about those smaller windows on the left side. Is it possible that originally the windows were a little taller and went all the way across? It seems like the brick window sill does go all the way across. If so it would look better if you could restore the original appearance with dark framed windows.

If the fascia has never been painted, I'd suggest you replace it with treated lumber and then paint it. Because the windows are white, white will work well for fascia and soffit.

If you are adding gutter with drip edges and downspouts, white downspouts would not work as well against the darker siding.

I assume those smaller windows are aluminum sliders? They could be painted or left alone. I would paint all the trim (soffit and fascia) black or a dark color like urbane bronze or black fox. The siding and brick will feel lighter by contrast. Please keep the trees, mid century lots were usually sold wooded and that was part of the attraction. Look at ground covers that work in the root zone (I’m in savannah where we use asiatic jasmine)

oh, seriously your house is so cool! I love your curved front stoop. consider maybe a modern new door. I like the style of this first one, but for you, I suggest a shade of blue or teal, which would pair nicely with the red tones you have in the siding and brick. also note the house numbers used here:

and something simple for the porch light. I love these types of globe sconces, they're understated and look great on houses like this. such as one of these.

Whatever you do, don't paint the brick. It's so deliciously classic MCM. Painted, it's just another house from the 50's or 60's.

Thanks everyone! Gosh, I’d love a more modern door if I could afford it. I definitely want to paint ours and I like the idea of a lighter blue color. It’s a kinda cool design already though, just needs a little TLC before painting!

it's a really cool door! a little too "flower power" for such a sleek modern exterior, but painting it will make it look better and be a nice holdover until you could afford a new door. (and keep the old one, I really do love it. maybe it could be repurposed somewhere else.)

I'd suggest a new handle set too. updated but not too modern (anything too hard edged might look odd with that flowery design). such as this one from kwikset? I think it comes with a keypad version too if that's what you want. you can always relocated it to the new door when if that gets replaced.

Get rid of the China berry tree; messy things they are.

Wow - Read this about the China Berry Tree. Texas Invasive Species. I think you need to get an arborist out to plan getting rid of the China Berry Tree(s). No wonder you can't see part of your really special house.

I love the front door: "Flower Power" and the brick is so special.

LOVE that house not the door at all. IMO th big issue is the landscaping so this is my fave inspiration for MCM landscaping and that house could be fabulous with something like this Please get a MCM front door and sell that one to someone who does not have a MCM home .I would probably paint the window trim black
