Paint Design Dilemma Exterior

Need exterior roof/paint colors for mid century home with blonde brick

I have a ’66 ranch with yellow/cream brick that I love, but the exterior needs to be spruced up. I have updated my front trellis to wood slats, and replaced the front lawn with rock slight darker than the brick (which covers 50% of the front of the house, but 100% on the back and sides). I am looking to get a new roof, gutters, paint the trim/eaves and top half of the front and potentially get new garage doors. I do not want to paint the brick though! One idea is a dark grey roof, black fascia and gutters, white soffit, white or cream siding in the front, and some wood or wood look garage doors… would that be too extreme on this house? Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated!

Gray roof is good. I would not go with the black trim. Black paint and even black metal fades or oxidizes and shows spider webs, dust and damage more than lighter colors. Maybe a gray-blue or gray-green trim? To me, cream siding close to the brick color would be good with an interesting trim color, but it would have to be a good match. And maybe paint the stone in front by the trellis the same cream. There is a school of thought that garage doors should recede, so match the siding, but your's are front and center so you may as well make them look interesting. There is the concern of maintenance requirements on exposed wood garage doors, though.

I think a gray like Kandall Charcoal would look good. I would paint the rafters reddish brown to look like your fence. I think white on the trim would work.

The Alberta Spruce seems too big.

It's a very "Cape Cpd" influences 1-story on the outside, with that salt-box shape garage. Just painting a contrast trim (pale cream to match a cream I see in the bricks?) and painting the garage door to match house would do a lot with the yellow, if it's in good dhape You really need to be there in person or have a trusted person do the paint selections to enhance the brick center section. SW Foggy Day - or a paler version of it - could look very good with that brick, but it takes an in-person color check. I'd do part of the house in and the garage portion something else to enhance the "we built this over time as the camily crew" look.

This would look LOVELY in a rich grey. I don't mind the orange with this, especially with an orange door. I'd do black trim around windows though. I think you need to up the landscaping around the front too- more shrubs, everything looks very low to the ground, and I'm not sure that tree by the door does much.

Awww I hope you keep the blue gazing ball - every garden benefits I think from at least one whimsical or kitschy piece! I like the red of the brick - it looks like a true brick red at least on my monitor. You might try scraping some paint on the siding to see what the original color was - just FYI, not that you want to use the same color. I was looking at these in the paint store other day - & thought there was something sweetly vintage and evocative of the 50s about them- maybe one of the beigy ones would tie red brick and stoney taupe together a little better: https://www.ppgvoiceofcolor.com/collections/frank-lloyd-wright/1955-taliesin-color-palette Actually what is that stoney looking piece - is it real? Is repeated elsewhere on the house? What color is the roof? If its blue (kinda looks like it?) and not changing then that would have to be considered somehow - whether that means changing/colorwashing the taupey stone parts to get it more harmonious wtih blue-gray, I dunno.

Your realtor is giving bad advice, leave the brick alone, you will disappoint the diehard MCM buyers. Your eye goes to light colours first, so leave all the trim especially at the roofline light, no black. If it was my home, I would consider painting the walls a warm taupe/grey, it has to work with the roof color, the brick and the mortar. Choose your colors carefully, you should hire a color expert to be on site. Or don’t paint at all, leave it to the buyer. Maybe the wood at the entry can be restored. Please don’t change anything that is authentic. This example photo shows how the wall and carport support was painted a color to work well with the brick.

Thank you everyone, these are all such great suggestions! I love the look of the grey roof and siding in your design, houssaon. I also agree that the spruce needs to go - we removed a matching one in the other side last Christmas and plan to utilize the one on the right this Christmas. Also, great to know about the maintenance issues with black paint, msjoan. I would never have thought about that!
