here we go...I feel like crying and screaming over our build.
Comments (51)Oh, KYgirl--Big hugs coming from me, too. I haven't been on his forum in a while because I've been dealing with our own build from He$$, and I didn't read all the responses in this thread, but I did read your original post. We've just gone through something very, very similar--different problems, but similar in scope, jerk of a builder, almost no on-site supervision, several horrible subs, lots of stress and tears. It has been horrible. We ended up moving into our house ten days ago while it was still unfinished because of having to be out of our rental, reaching our bank deadline for closing, etc. I just wrote you a long post, but realized that it ended up being about me, not you--and this is your thread! So, I guess I just want to say that I sympathize with you, and I think I understand a lot of what you must be feeling. It's a good day if I haven't cried more than once before 9 a.m.! This has been the most stressful, unpleasant experience of our lives. Friends will say, "Oh, you must be so excited to be in your house," and I feel like a spoiled brat if I don't respond positively. It has been a nightmare. There's still lots to be done here, dh and I are doing and/or redoing stuff that we've already paid contractors to do, but they either did a crappy job or haven't been showing up. It just sucks. As badly as I feel for you, reading your post at least made me feel as though I'm not the only one who has gone through this and I thought you might want to know you're not alone. The old misery loves company routine, I guess! Take care of yourself, and try not to let it get you down--I know how hard it is, but if we don't look at the positive side, we'll go completely crazy. Although, at least you could then plead insanity when you're charged with killing Mr. Peanut!...See MoreFinally, pics of our completed beach house -- pic heavy!
Comments (46)Thanks for letting me know those are Flor tiles, Sue! Even better! They would likely work better than the rug I have in my kitchen because the ends of the rug are bulky and get in the way of the trash compactor opening. I have been having a hard time finding the right long rug for the hallway that will run from our front door to the mudroom, too. I will have to keep an eye out for good deals on flor tiles while we do that part of our remodel. I have been really enjoying the home decor forum here now that our kitchen is mostly done, and we will be starting on the rest of the house this spring. We just got cafe curtains hung in the kitchen and dining room today, so it was nice to see your curtains, too. Just enough for privacy, but still lets the light in......See MoreWhen Should I Go House Shopping?
Comments (7)I would start shopping now, online and researching your new area. Look at the surrounding areas of the homes that interest you, such as grocery stores, banks, and restaurants - your daily living. you can also get crime stats online, as well. I would also plan on renting first. I recently sold my home in 3 days! I had not planned on that - I was expecting it to take 3-6 months at least and was unprepared for such a short time for it to sell. I knew what general area I wanted to live in, proximity to grocery, banking, access roads, etc, so I was able to narrow down my search. I used Realtor.com and truvia.com to help me. They also list recent sales, so I could do a comparison as to what the listing prices are and the sales prices were. When I was ready, it just became a matter of finding the right house. I got a short term rental - 3-6 month (i did pay a premium for that - but it was worth paying that rather than ending up with a house i was not sure of) and have just closed on a house that I know I will be happy with. Good Luck with your search....See MoreNew house build, "Final house plans". Please pick apart!
Comments (5)I'd get rid of the corner pantry, move the range and fridge down, and put tall pantries to the right of the fridge. And put a prep sink on the island--maybe if she has a nice, efficient layout she'll cook more, and with two nice work areas, maybe you'll cook together....See MoreEyegirlie
