Accent wall or not? Need advice on paint color
I'm trying to decide whether or not I want to make the wall with the fireplace an accent wall. The brick has some red, cream, and dark undertones to it. I don't want to highlight the brick but instead work with it. I was thinking of using BM Kingsport Gray on that wall and the beam on the ceiling with the surrounding walls in BM Edgecomb Gray. The ceiling would be either BM White Dove or SW Pure White. I'm starting to have doubts about the accent wall because it seems dark and thinking of just using Edgecomb Gray all around (or trying the Kingsport at 25% lighter). This room gets light from a north facing window. The floor will be Flooret Modin Arlo (https://www.flooret.com/arlo-72-click/. Any thoughts?

Comments (19)Hey Teapot...I like tea as well. I think the wall should be a paint colour that goes with the living room. But you could do something great with fabric that would really have panache. What about choosing a great fabric design and putting a cover on the piano bench and chair seat? You could carry it into the living room with an accent pillow. I included a link with a wood dining chair with a slip cover. But you could use any fabric that had pizazz - a cotton or linen with a design - and was in keeping with your décor, and a tie on cushion on the chair beside it. And if that chair is part of a dining set then carry it into the dining room. Sometimes the decorator Sarah Richardson would use one fabric on a bench, and a coordinating fabric on the cushion with the first fabric as a piping... Then maybe paint out the frame of your art over the piano in a coordinating colour, and something on top of the piano that is fun like several different coloured glass bottles... Comments (1)Post this on the Home Decorating forum. It is a pretty color, but part of the reason it looks out of place is that the color doesn't appear anywhere else in the room. A safer bet would have been to pull any of the colors from the curtain (there are probably 4 to 6 shades of gold beige and white in there) or the carpet (probably 10-12 colors). 4 years agoHi Patricia and Sina - I only have the realtor photos for the space as everything has been gutted and no furniture is in the space. Hopefully this gives you an idea of the room.
