mirrored sliding closet doors

We just bought my mother in laws home and are doing a whole house renovation. We are absolutely on a budget. We are upgrading the interior doors as I hate builder grade doors. Our “on budget “ closet doors are few and mostly mirrored sliding. The bedrooms are quite small and may benefit from something that tricks the eye. I guess my question is are these types of doors totally dated. We need to make some compromises in this renovation and this could be the place. Thanks!

Back to the future! Personally I hate seeing that overweight old guy wandering around in my bedroom in the morning. It's bad enough when he looks back at me from the bathroom mirror. Full profile is too much.

I'd shop the Re-Store for door panels.

I personally believe every bedroom should have a full length mirror for dressing or at least one in the bedroom hall for all to use. Since the rooms are smaller I think the mirror closet doors are a keeper. Function first. If you really don't like them you can always attach a full length mirror on the back of the bedroom door.

We removed 2 sets of bi-fold mirror doors when remodeling the house. When I went to the big box stores for six panel bi-folds, the special order 8 foot doors were over $150.00 per pair, just like writersblock said. Since I was tired of construction creep and forking over $$$dollars, I balked. Of course my DH had already given the mirrored doors to one of the workers! So we went to Habitat for Humanity and found exactly what we needed new in their boxes for $30.00 a pair. We had donated half the house to them, so got quite a chuckle out of the deal. By the way, mirrored doors are more expensive than the solid doors.

Thanks everyone! I went to the big box and checked out the mdf. And I found " custom" doors that can be ordered in non- standard sizes for a very reasonable cost. So happy I don't have to spend $$$ or time/energy to get what I needed.

yes bi fold doors, not sliding. You have no room for sliding. Actually, I don't know that you even have room for bifold. That is an odd sized door opening that you have. My experience with bifolds is that they come in 12" wide segment or maybe 15". They are for 48" wide openings and 60" openings, etc. You don't have any multiple thereof with 39". I have never seen an intentional closet in such a position. I doubt that was part of the original floor plan. Is it possible to eliminate this closet and put a free standing piece of some kind in it's place? That corner space is so awkward as to be of diminished value. It looks like you could eliminate that one piece on the wall and thus eliminate the "closet".

There are overlays that can be applied to mirrored doors, cabinets, regular doors, and furniture. Google "overlay for mirrored doors" and it should pop up. If you are looking to add a little something, on a budget, this could be an idea for you.
