Comments (38)I camped on Catalina also, but I don't remember any wild boars - I was not aware that they lived there. I did see buffalo on a bus tour of the island, but our campsite was walking distance from Avalon, just down the hill from the botanical gardens, and so it might have been more civilized than where you camped. When we lived in Venice, we could ride our mountain bikes from our house on the bike routes to a ferry dock in Marina Del Rey to catch a seasonal ferry to Catalina and then have our bikes on the island while we were there, which we liked, but we never took a bike tour of the entire island, as the mountains were way too steep....See MoreI'll show you mine/you show me yours - M 6/26/23
Comments (21)Not that many tourists tromp through the canals - most go to the beach bike path or boardwalk, and the bike path does get crowded, especially in the summer and August, when European tourists tend to visit. I used to ride my bike on the bike path after work almost every day, and I did get tired of the crowds - especially the tourists who would walk on the bike path instead of on the boardwalk. The bike path was clearly marked in the pavement "BIKES ONLY" but perhaps some of the tourists could not read English. The Japanese tourists were especially bad because they would walk on the bike path in groups and cause problems for bikers. The boardwalk was right next to the bike path, and so there was no reason for people to walk on the bike path. I never saw a lot of people at the canals - mostly just locals....See MoreI'll show you mine/you show me yours - 6/11/26
