Kitchen Sink area 'reno': 4 new appliances...

Does 4 new appliances related to my sink count as a kitchen sink renovation? :-)

=== Context

a) Situation started with an unwanted drip from my 10 year old Delta Touch faucet. Diagnosis: The a > $100 electronic part (the solenoid). We love the touch feature. Had no problems till now. Definitely want another. All bathroom Delta touch faucets are still going strong with no problems at + 10 yrs.

b) Situation evolved in a week with a much bigger leak from the manifold of my 20 yr old under-sink Reverse Osmosis unit. I am SO glad I didn't replace my floor tile with wood (yet...)

I've been wanting to replace the RO unit with a different model (below).

I bought the smallest one (2.5 gallons) since my Bosch dishwasher allegedly uses only 1.9 gallons per cycle (that sounds unbelievable to me...)

I'm swapping my disposal for the mini-water heater. We use the disposal maybe once a month. Trash pull-out is convenient to the sink.

I'd appreciate fast hot water so much more than my existing disposal.

2) Reverse Osmosis under-sink filtration

I used that company above for my 2017 water softener purchase after researching who made the best water softener valves (Fleck). They ship quickly, and someone (mark at afwfilters.com) always answers my questions promptly via email, even late at night.

The faucet received looks like this only, thankfully, much more like a normal "stainless" than dark like below which was labeled "brushed nickel"

I think the Addison model is prettiest, but this model goes best with the RO faucet that will be nearby.

5) Xtreme Mats Under Sink Kitchen Cabinet Mat

For the inevitable next leak.

What kills me about the water making it to the floor:

I had not just 1, but 2 under sink water leak detectors under my cabinet. One towards n the back, one in the middle in a jelly roll / cookie pan right under the sink plumbing.

However, the water from the Reverse Osmosis manifold went straight down through the left side cabinet seam and onto the floor.

My plumber told me about this mat.

I had Hue light strips installed last year all over the kitchen (above cab, below cab, under the toe kick area).

LOVE the Hue light strips and Hue lights in the kitchen. "Alexa turn off the island". At holidays the Christmas and Thanksgiving theme colors can be really fun.

However, the cabinet mat would have been resting directly on the LED drivers for the under cabinet part that plugs in under my sink. Also, the mat would have been tilted.

So I had a handyman install a piece of wood cut around the drivers to level the sink bottom and put no pressure on the LED drivers.

=== Current challenge:

1) Actually receiving the Delta Touch20 faucet. It was the first thing I ordered, and will be the last thing I receive.

Faucet #1: Ordered on June 8, delivery from Home Depot. the Delta Touch20 faucet Addison model.

When it arrived, I noticed what I thought was tiny balls of dirt under the shrink wrap and on the ground under the package on my porch. It wasn't dirt. It was those tiny magnetic balls from the magnet disc part that I believe goes under the sink. It had cracked.

I think the damage happened in shipment - the faucet was packaged just like you pull it off the shelf. NOT packaged well for shipment. However, looking at it next to the RO faucet made me realize the Delta Leland design would look better than the Addison design.

Faucet #2: Ordered on June 15, with pickup from Lowes. Estimated arrival of TODAY. I called Lowes today. They said their vendor had not even shipped it to Lowes yet. More phone calls reveal the Lowes' vendor doesn't even have it in their possession yet to ship to my Lowes store. Canceled the order. SO rude to pretend like you have something available for immediate shipment but don't.

Faucet #3: Ordered today June 24 from Amazon. Guaranteed deliver Wednesday June 26.

Ok, ready2moves, after consulting my Behr fandeck of paint colors, I have some names for you to look at. I do not work for Behr or any store selling it, nor am I a professional of any sort. YELLOW: THREADED GOLD --soft pale yellow ochre. I've used this color in my kitchen for many years. Even rag rolled it on in a tiny 8x9' room over white, and walls just melted away in light. To me, it is the color of sunlight. It is an older Behr color, but you can get it mixed at the new super duper Behr ultra pure plus in a satin enamel which can be washed. Get a sample GREY: LIGHT FRENCH GRAY 720E2 This color is a warmed up gray. There are warm grays that go with tans better than with blues, but identifying them at the paint store is not as easy as in art class. ANTIQUE WHITE--Behr #1823....This is a warm off white tending toward a grayed tan. Definitely not a warm beige which I think is the reason the beige's turn you off. It is gorgeous. If you do not put pure white next to it, you'd think this was....well, WHITE. But it is not pure white. Now for the CHOCOLATES. WILD PORCINI 250E3 ...a lighter grayed chocolate which sits well beside both blues and grays. To me, it looks like my cup of instant cocoa, w/o the red tones. REALLY this is my best bet for your purposes. STONE BROWN 250F4.....A darker midtone chocolate if you wish to put more difference between your blue and the chocolate. But it is similar in tone to the Wild Porcini. MILK CHOCOLATE 710B5.....While this one carries the appropriate name, to me it is more toward the reddish brown look. It looks more like a cup of hot cocoa laced with milk, and not a "milk chocolate." I put it on here to point out that you cannot choose paint by the name alone. :) And let's see, we said TAUPE? CLASSIC TAUPE 290E3...Definitely not a wimpy beige. This is the color I'm painting my dining room, with Ultra Pure White woodwork and a view through to the kitchen with its Threaded Gold walls and stainless steel. Stainless is another gray, in my book. Yellow and gray go together well. RICH TAUPE PMD77....You might like this, it seems to change depending on the colors around it. It did not work well next to the terra cotta of my living room walls. MESA TAUPE UL130-16....It was a close call between this one and Classic Taupe for me. I looked at this and saw gray first time, then I saw a rosier tone of beige. I think taupes are the chameleons of the paint chart. Now, I do not know what blues you have going on in your family room. And I do not know what paint finishes you plan to use. But might I suggest that you get the latex enamel at least eggshell or satin? If you have kids and pets, wiping this off w/o damaging the paint will be easier and you'll finish the year with better looking walls.

Wow thank you so much for your thoughtful work, comments and ideas, mama goose!! I knew there were plenty of other options I hadn't considered, so I really appreciate your thoughts. The gray wall where the fridge and range currently are is load-bearing--we have talked to a GC about removing it and adding a beam in its place. It will need to be engineered but we are willing to see that through. The yellow cut out wall does have air return going to it. Not sure exactly what would need to be done to reroute that. Maybe keeping partial of that wall would be nice to give that bathroom separation. I really like that idea, herbflavor! I wouldn't mind getting rid of the small dining nook. We wouldn't have another dining area, but it really isn't big enough to be comfortable anyway. We are casual enough to go with the island seating I think! I'll have to run that idea by my SO. I also really like the sink on the island to make the back wall more functional. Corner pantry would be great! I do agree changing the slider out for a single door would be super nice to extend the counter space....The slider is only a few years old so not sure my SO will go for it but I definitely want to look into that! That would make such a difference.

Hello! I have lurked here for a while and enjoy everyone’s projects and am amazed at the knowledge and helpfulness from everyone. Now we are planning to make changes to our kitchen and I need your advice. This started when we decided to get a new oven with a proof option because my husband often bakes bread. Then a new cooktop sounded like a good idea, and a new downdraft to go with it. So, of course, we have to get new counter tops for the cooktop to sit on! My husband does not want to paint or replace the cabinets. We are not doing this to sell the house. We’d like to make it the way we like it. We know what we like when we see it, but are not creative enough to imagine it. That’s why we are asking for advice. The current cabinets, Subzero refrigerator, sink, and faucet will stay. The dishwasher is a Miele which is working fine, but it would be nice to have a new quieter dishwasher and get all the ‘remodeling’ done at the same time. An oven with a French door or side opening door is appealing, but not required. We have seen the Wolf appliances and like them. We’ve also seen Thermador and liked those, but I don’t have model numbers. I am open to other brands and models, and want quality that won’t break. The appliances don’t all have to be the same brand. These are the models we are considering: Wolf SO30TE/S/TH oven Wolf CG304T/S cooktop Best Cattura down draft (1st choice) with exterior motor. Wolf DD30 down draft (2nd choice) I need a lot of advice on the counters. We like the Cambria marble collection. We don’t like a lot of movement or large pattern in the counter, but do like small veining. We don’t know whether light/white or dark/black would go better with the oak cabinets, but we are leaning toward the light/white counters. We’ve seen these: Cambria Swanbridge Silestone Eternal Statuario Silestone Iconic Black I would like a ‘window sill’ or ‘shelf’ made from the counter material across the bottom of all 4 of the windows behind the sink, like a wide window sill. But don’t know what is possible or how to describe what I want. The sink/faucet is pretty close to the window directly behind it. I am attaching current photos of the kitchen.
