I would consider getting a cooktop/rangetop and separate ovens. You can pick exactly the components that fit your needs. If one thing goes out, you don't have to replace it all. If you like to bake I would consider an electric oven. There is a lot written on the difference between the two. I think having convection makes the biggest difference. Some ovens have modes to be very specific in how heat is directed. They are wonderful if they are proven and work. They are additional electronics that in the worst case can be subject to damage from self cleaning or just not work, causing hot spots. A current issue with some ovens is the enamel of blue ovens. I have a Wolf and Electrolux both bake great but I just discovered that both floors of the oven are pitting over the elements. Sheesh! I had problems with the Elux initially and they replaced the oven because the enamel was chipping. It is out of warranty but I do have an extended warranty. The Wolf is parts only so will have to see what they will do. Neither has been exposed to very high heat. I had a Dacor range and oven 5 years ago with blue enamel and it came off too. There have been some things written about blue enamel. Have you considered induction for a cooktop? Agree with above there is so much written. We are both serious cooks and have just demolished our kitchen. The new space is apx 20' x 20'. The two major appliance dealers in our area (upstate NY) are pushing Thermador and Jennaire package deals. We are leaning toward the CC six burner cooktop as our splurge. Looking at double wall ovens, one with convection. For fridge, we are looking counter depth side by side though are tempted to get a stand-along fridge and a smaller freezer for the pantry. We already have a freezer and back-up fridge in the basement for holiday times and special events. We are replacing an old two drawer Fisher Paykal and looking at Bosch. Also looking at a stackable laundry-dryer combo, near kitchen - needs to be relatively quiet. Any and all thoughts welcome! Thanks.

I need to warn you. I'm not one of the talented design gurus here, just an interested amateur. I think Lisa was working with the wrong dimensions, correct? I wrote them on the diagram. Please let me know if they're correct. If so, cpartist is right. You don't have room for an island. I left off your peninsula only because you never answered the question Lisa asked: If a peninsula is put in the location in your original plan, will you have at least 60" from the edge of the peninsula to the edge of your dining table? That is the minimum needed to have seating at both and still have room to walk if people are seated at both locations. Anyway, the best I could do is this: First, let me know if the dimensions are accurate. I didn't bother to draw uppers in on the fridge wall. The blue line will be about 117" fro the end of the counter to the edge of the kitchen. The yellow line measure will be about 86" from north counter edge to south counter edge and about 81" across where the fridge is (unless you get a true counter-depth/built-in). A lot of people do something a bit different in kitchens like yours that adds counter space and storage. They go with 30" deep counters. This adds a lot more counter space and, if you get custom cabinets, also a lot more storage with the deeper drawers. It will allow you to make a regular fridge look more built-in as the counter-depth will come out to the fridge door (you do need to allow for door swing). It also gives more space behind the range for less grease splatter on the backsplash and behind the sink for cleaning items (or pretties). If you do that, the north/south green line would be 74" and the east/west will be 105". Without an island or other blockage, there is plenty of room to walk from fridge to sink so crossing over the cook's area isn't a problem. It's not the most creative layout but it is a functional one. I know your wife wants some glass uppers. I wouldn't recommend them right next to the range and hood due to potential grease collection in that proximity, harder to keep clean. Also, keep in mind, your hood should be larger than your cooktop. I think you're going for a 36" cooktop? If so, you need a 42" hood. With a 30" cooktop, you need a 36" hood. If you go with the wider hood and have a couple inches clearance on each side before the upper cabinets start, then glass doors there should work fine. Hope this helps a bit. Itucker80, Appliances are difficult. You spend a lot of money, use it frequently and have it for hopefully a long time. You can get paralyzed for fear of making the wrong decision. Some people do not notice much difference in gas and electric but you might notice a couple of things. Gas ovens have more ventilation because it needs to exhaust the products of combustion. This means more heat and moisture into you kitchen. I think this is why you see so few gas wall ovens. You probably want ventilation over that oven. Some bakers say that their cakes set a little quicker so don't rise as much. Most people report better browning when roasting meats and vegetables. If you bake bread, and steam it at the beginning, it is harder to keep the steam in the oven with gas. There are work arounds for that Another thing to notice is the broiler. Gas broilers are either the blue flame which is not that great because heat goes up, and not so much toward what you are cooking underneath it or infrared which is really hot but can be small. I will say for a dishwasher, I had a Bosch 800 series for 11 years and it has been a workhorse. It did develop an issue with the pump and I am not fixing it but replacing it with another Bosch.
