Got out in the sun today
Comments (11)It was sunny out but a tiny bit chilly. Still, I was able to work in the rose garden. I saw a little yellow butterfly flittering about today while I was out watering! I did a triple take. A butterfly in February??? Planted a new rose bush today - I bought another Rosa, Mirandy. It is a beautiful rose and smells so wonderful. Had to reove a few irises to plant it where I wanted it, so set them out in two new areas. I also dug up one clump of Day lilies (wine with red edges and yellow centers) that had spread and become crowded against the new path I built in early January. I divided it in two pieces and replanted them in nice soil in two other spots. Dug up some of the blue Larkspur seedlings that have come up in the path between the stepping stones. Reset them in with some pink and pink-yellow blend roses and pink and blue irises. Got them all watered in. It is looking nice already. Sowed white and blue nigella in front and chocolate-vanilla nigella at the end of the row. Sowed Pink Tutu in one place and Black Penny in another along the new path. Sprinkled white Baby's Breath hither and thither between the Pink roses. I am fencing the rose garden to keep out the chickens and small wildlife. Just need two more sides to complete the fencing. Gotta get more posts. I'd would like to have picket, but will make do with what I have on hand. Besides, wire will last longer. It sure felt good to be digging in the dirt again....See MoreKnock on wood, Chammi's coming home tomorrow!
Comments (28)Awww, thanks for asking! I didn't want to clog up the posts with yet another one about my dog. She's doing fantastic - still a little weak but getting around well, going up and down stairs on her own. We've been doing some physical therapy exercises with her at home and as soon as her incision is healed, she'll start swimming. The surgeon is amazed at her resiliency, because it's not too often that an old Golden recovers so well. But, she doesn't know Chammi ;) I was really worried for a couple of days, but then one morning she magically looked like her old self again. Her thyroid panel came back a little low, so my vet has recommended treating her for a month to see if there's any change. Apparently hypothyroidism in dogs can cause muscle weakness, just like in people. I'll try and post a photo later. Sue...See MoreHelp!! painter coming tomorrow!!
Comments (17)Going very dark on your siding will eliminate a portion of the buyer pool for your home. Since you are selling the house and painting it to sell, consider a lighter color preferably not in the blue family. Buyers have a very strong reaction to blue: they love it or hate it IME. I'm a Realtor so I see this divide with strong colors in my area. A good agent in your area can tell you what colors work for resale too. Depending upon the final color you select, the yellow doors would be fabulous. Here are a couple of combos for your consideration with different front door colors: ^Yellow siding and navy front door with white trim including sidelites. ^Blue with yellow door. You can see that this is beautiful, but would eliminate some buyers right from the beginning. ^Very neutral siding....See More"Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow, creeps on this petty pace..."
Comments (25)Yep, I only water "new implants",and last time I was there I did test the soil with my moisture-reader of a couple of them, and the soil still registered as "moist" ,so I haven't yet started watering. In any case, this year there's only 15 new ones, since I could only start gardening after Christmas, due to the hip operation. What's more, I do have quite a lot of water stored up out there; it's just that, as a principle, I like to always replace the water that I use as much as possible. But these past 2 years have been so hard: last summer, since I was doing chemo, I had to break my rule and use water without replacing it,my water-catching rooflet fell down, and un-wisely, I put off filling up one of my 5 big water tanks-I didn't forsee my car having problems. So, things are far from "desperate", lol-it's just frustrating. For at least this up-coming week, I may have to avoid trying to go out there;the forecast is so bad! extreme heat, no favourable wind (for me, favourable is south-west ; makes it bearble temperature-wise and keeps the mosquitos, flies, etc away). Among my future projects is to build myself a sort of gazebo, so I'll have a place to sit in the shade and just look. Also adding trees, though it's tricky. The view is so beautiful, and I don't want to block it too much, but it is towards the south-west . So I am trying to guess spots in which I can put trees that won't block the view completely, yet will provide some protection from the afternoon sun. But I get so little morning sun, and I don't want to block that. I'm also trying to think of ways to shade the roads that I must use to get down to my garden. For the main one I'm going to try to plant tall -growing climbing roses that I can train over rebar bent to form arches, in the hopes to create a sort of rose tunnel. On another path, within the garden,I've decided to not replace the roses that I removed -they were doing so poorly!-and instead put in a redbud or two. I've got 2 wisterias planted that I'm hoping will help shade the entrance gate as well. Gotta build support structures for these things, though...so much to do! but for now it's best that I just sit tight, and try to be patient....See MoreMaryl (Okla. Zone 7a)
