How do you envision you will use this space? Reading? Cup of coffee? breakfast? And how many people will be using the space?

Just two of us for now (and company on holidays I'd imagine)! Kids will be coming eventually. I envision it to be used as a place just to relax. Read, cup of coffee, stare at the trees out back (haha)

How wonderful that you're not using gray paint. Gray is rapidly going away. In fact many of us professional designers in Austin have not been using it for a couple of years. Taupe or white are my favorite wall colors these days.

Regarding the sun room area, which as you note is really part of the kitchen, I like having seating there, which seems to be what is in the model. But it doesn't have to be the same seating. You need to think about how you'll be using the space. Do you live alone, or with husband and family, cats, dogs, or goldfish. Tell us a bit more about who will be using the sun room and what you want to put in it. Do you need a small office space? Space for kids to study? A comfy place to read a book? Let us know the answers to these questions and we'll be able to help you much better.

Hi Carolyn! Thanks so much for your response. I'm mostly sticking with the builder beige to save money (and because the builder only offers the beige or the cool Dove Gray color which I dislike). But in the future I would love to do a light greige color - but that's way down the line!

I think we'd mostly use the space to relax. No pets but we will have a dog once we're settled in the home! I think it'd be best for a place to read a book, drink coffee, and just to relax.

If it helps, here are other pictures of the model home. This area is one big open space, so I want a nice flow from room to room.

I'm not sure beige paint goes with any of your selected kitchen finishes. You may want to rethink that. As for that space, maybe a small cafe table with two chairs?

Sadly I don't have much say in the wall color. I can either go with the standard builder beige, which is not dark by any means, it's more of a cream color, or I can choose the Dove Gray for an extra $2k, which I don't like. Since it's a new construction home, I don't have many options...and it seems silly to pay thousands for a color I'll paint over eventually.

Here's a picture of a very similar color to the builder's standard color. It's very neutral. I could ask if I can buy paint and the builder use it but I don't think that's possible.

I actually like the seating arrangement in the model home and it seems to fit what you'll be using that space for. Just pick two comfy chairs and a side table you like. I know you didn't ask for opinions on your finishes, but it seems that your granite leans toward a very cool grey while the floor is a much warmer light brown. Just something to think about.

The cream walls should look great with your selections, but I agree that your countertop choice looks a little too gray. However, you've seen it in person. I like your other choices. Be sure to look at your choices all together in daylight. Sometimes they can look quite different.

Thanks Jay! I did originally pick out a warmer granite but I think it was too matcha. In certain light it looked super beige ☹️

Here’s the granite in the kitchen lightening. It’s not as gray as it appeared in the first photo. I think (hope!) it will look ok together.

I’m thinking of doing teals and blues with a pops of yellow throughout the living room, kitchen and sunroom.

Hoping those colors won’t clash too much! Really fell in love with this pattern.

Hi! You mentioned you weren’t a fan of the model home’s morning room... what is it that you don’t like? Just the color? Do you like the idea of the 2 comfy chairs?

Laura, I don't like the color or the shape of the chairs. To me (I'm short), they weren't very comfortable or functional. I want a nice comfy chair in the space but I don't want it to look too...relaxed?

I think a couple swivel chairs and a bigger table, maybe a small coffee table or ottoman with tray, would work better than the model chairs. Then you can look out the window with coffee or a cocktail or someone can hang there while you/DH cook.

Wing back chairs are a traditional look.

What is your style?

If I were picking out furniture for an area like that, I would want an ottoman for my feet, and as much as they scream hospital to me, maybe a set of interlocking "C" side tables so that if I and my significant other both would like to have coffee and something to nibble on at the same time, we can both have a table to use, rather than having to worry about everything fitting on the one table, or having to get a gigantic table in the middle, and still having to twist to the side to reach something on it which as you get older is less and less of a cinch.

At least those "C" tables these days are getting better looking and you can put them right in front of you if you want for your java and croissant and your morning paper (boy, am I dating myself) and you don't have to feel like you are using the hospital table, they are getting so good looking now.

You may know that men like a big leather chair, and they are marvelous. And if you get a nice dark brown, a little spilled coffee or dog slobber can be easily wiped up. Or not even noticed :)

Some men loove a leather recliner.

And some women swear they would never have one in their house.

If you can lean a bit modern-ish, a great compromise is the classic Eames chair with the matching ottoman.

You can get a great replica.

The last pic of your granite with the other finishes in different lighting made a huge difference. It looks great! Regarding chairs, I'm thinking cozy and less formal slipcovered chairs would look wonderful in that room. You'll be drinking coffee there, maybe eating a bit, so slipcovers would be handy. Do you have an IKEA near you? I was happy with the Ektorp style at a cottage we once had. They were inexpensive, fairly comfortable and you have a selection of slipcovers. They are also slimmer than they look in the ad. slipcovered Ektorp

Hi Ashley, congratulations on your new build. I envision 2 comfy, low chairs, possibly one ottoman, and a table in the middle. The last picture with the better lighting shows the cabinets and granite to go together well (in my unprofessional opinion). As for paint if you’re going to repaint then don’t bother spending $2000... that’s clearly throwing out your money. Put it towards getting the right color. By me there are a few people who charge very little to help pick out colors and the few houses I’ve seen them help came out quite nice. Sometimes it’s not worth the stress of doing it yourself. I also like your choice of blues.

I think the most important thing will be to get comfortable SWIVEL chairs....so you will be comfortable facing in ...and outwards
