Mine are covered by my neighbors Hugh tree that hangs over my property. The only sun they get is from about 5:00 on. They are doing fine,if only it would stop raining everyday and have warmer nights.

Sorry, no, they're tropical forest cacti, growing among the tree branches so they're used to dappled light. I have mine indoors on edge of west windows & sometimes they redden up a bit on the edge that gets direct light. But I'd be afraid they'd burn maybe crispy from direct afternoon sun.

mine are indoors in direct west window, but on top of 6' shelf. so in winter they get low sun for several hours. and in summer the sun gets too high, but they still get some very late sun and they do fine, but leaves redden.

long time ago I had one at the eastern corner of south bay window: so they will get so-soWest light for many hours and they bloomed and were totally fine too.

I think that when they don't get sun indoors they don't bloom.

but outdoors light is so much stronger even in shade, so it's a different story.

Mine are outdoors in very bright dappled sunlight, and they look it as the leaves are quite colored. Actually it might be a bit too much, but I don't want to move them so they must tough it out. Also have one it full shade and it's green as grass. They would not like direct afternoon sun.

I kept my TC in full sun for few years now, without any problem. Yes, the leaves always 'color' up, but plant is alive. I have it for at least 8 (?) yrs - can't remeber exactly, and before it was given to me it was also kept in full sun. Doesn't mean that is best, just the way I keep it. It is probably easier - and maybe better for the plant - to keep it in dappled sunlight. My plant needs repotting more than less light...I wonder if that may be bigger problem (for me).

Petrishuka, I’ve only had these for about a year and I managed to get them to bloom.

Rina, full sun with no shade? I’m tempted to get a cutting and see how it does in full sun next summer.

Schlums like bright indirect light or bright shade, mine stay under the awning of the house out of direct sunlight. Your porch sounds like a good spot.

They are out with no covers,I have been taking and covering them this week with plastic. The nights were getting in the low 50's. I hope it warms up.

My Schlumbergera x buckleyi is getting direct morning sun and afternoon shade, and it seems fine. In fact, I think it's starting to form flower buds. Here's a picture of it I took today:

Thanks guys, it endured many far less than optimal conditions - so much more resilient IMO than its cousin, Schlumbergera truncata, and it's a pity plant shops no longer sell it...

Whip, Don't put the variegated Madam Butterfly in direct sun. It burns easily. I keep mine in a sheltered front porch with only direct morning sun for about two hrs. a day. My red flowered one get a lot of sun and tons of rain all summer with out any problems and the leaves turn that nice dark redish color. The white flowered one doesn't color up in the same full sun. Don't have pictures unless some one wants to see them. Have to take them.

Rob, wow, your cutting is coloring up so nicely depsite this dismal cloudy weather which seems to be more persistent than sunny days.

Mines get full sun and does just fine.

As Stush says though, the Madam Butterfly does not get full sun becasue it does burn. That is the only one I give part sun. Remember, the sun we get is much less intense than further west and south of us.The more sun,. the more color on mine. Some of mine share the same pots with other plants too) Great job

The weather has been terrible. It’s raining as we speak. If we get some sunny days, I’ll move the one you gave to full sun over a week or so. I wasn’t sure they could handle it.
