christmas cactus vs thanksgiving, holiday cactus
Comments (32)I have two hanging cactus plants that I would like to identify. The plants resemble Christmas etc only one has very large leaves and blooms with tiny little pale yellow blooms all around the leaf at each point. the other has smaller twisted leaf with a yellow bloom at the end of a stem and then a round bulbus growth in it's place. I can take pictures of them as they are now, but lost pictures of the blooms when my computer crashed. Thanks for any help you can give....See MorePoinsettias, Holiday Cactus, Christmas Cactus ...

Comments (16)Stush yours is an Easter cactus/Schlumbergera gaertneri. The Op’s is different it’s a Schlumbergera buckleyi. They do look alike, but if you really look at the leaves the differences are there. It’s easier to tell the differences between the two if you look at drawings of the leaves. One of the main differences I see between Easter and Christmas is Easters’ leaves are more dimpled on the side. While Christmas’ leaves have scalloping that points up or down depending on how your looking at the leaf. The flowers are very different from the two. Thanksgiving cactus/Schlumbergera truncata looks way different from Easter and Christmas. The leaves’ margins look like lobster claws. In your second pic on the lower left that’s a Thanksgiving cactus/ Schlumbergera truncata....See MoreWhat wrong with my holiday cactus? Fungus or pest?
Comments (10)Flies, if small, are most likely fungus gnats. They will not cause such damage on leaves. Larvae feeds on roots, adults don't live that long - just long enough to lay many eggs!!! I don't think any flies would cause it. Snails may, but unlikely because they would leave a slimy trail...you be surprised - there is a chance of tiny mice in the apartments. Some damage is just from something falling on the branch, or pressing on it - I don't see any serious problem in your photos. My plant is older, see the corking:...See Morepetrushka (7b)
