Holiday Cactus/ Thanksgiving? Gift from BIL ..
Comments (16)Jojo..Doesn't the mix Josh speaks of sound so delicious? lol Reall! My C.C, T.C, all my Hoya's and many other epethites , is that how you spell that? Oh yes, many of my orchid and most of my houseplants LOVE this mix! I think you said something about being worried about having to water more often in the heat? Have you seen how HOT the temps can get where Josh lives? I have never been that hot here, and he seems to do just fine. Rhizo, you crack me up..lol Wishing everyone a Happier New Year or just as good as the last! It's 30 degrees here and already dark and cloudy at 4 p.m. So depressing. I was really hoping my plants would at least get a few minutes of sun today. Not:-( Mom send you an extra ton of love Jojo and wishes all the best for Mike too. You have been such an awesome friend after all these years. Ooh, one more thing Jojo...Take a look at what the mix could look like. I'll link you. It's 5 parts bark, one part pumice, and one part perlite. Josh thanks pal. Comments (9)Hiya Cyirra and all, Congrats on the blooms! They're really, really lovely! I don't have any of the yellow/gold types so it's really fun to see yours. What conditions are you growing yours in? I still have the one in these older pics ('Dark Marie')--it's in my den right now and is budding up nicely (and making a couple of early blooms each week too). Here's a pic of one of the early blooms from this week, it will make its larger flush in a month or three. I've gone a bit overboard with Christmas cacti over the last couple of years, but they're so durable, and they love it here (indoors) and they bloom regularly for me (although often not until mid to late winter) so why not, right?? Here's a pic of a small rescue plant I got two years ago as an utterly wilted MESS with only five segments. Some bright light and occasional water have helped it revive. Happy gardening indoors and out everyone, and tomato, please post pics of yours when they bloom! Grant...See MoreWANTED: Pollen trade - Holiday Cactus/Epi cactus

Comments (22)Hi garden, Congrats on all your new flowers!! I bet its beautiful. Since I'm pretty new to them, but can tell you that I am using a fast draining mix, so that the soil doesn't stay wet too long. My mix is a little more complex, but I know a lot of people that grow them with great success with Cactus soil and lots of perlite, or you can add some coarse silica sand(not fine sand)pumice, gravel, or small pine or fir bark mixed in your potting mix. If it were mine and because you live in zone 7 I would wait till spring and definitely after its done blooming and warms up, just my humble opinion...good luck! :o)...See Moredonaldb
