Will I find a standard double sink 48" vanity?
Comments (10)I have seen numerous ready-made 48" vanities with two sinks. That's a pretty smart idea- putting two 24" vanities together. That might give you more of a selection of styles, but the plumbing might be kind of difficult. The tops would have a seam as well if they were ready-made. You can also build your own from ready-made pieces. If you have 24" depth, you can buy a cabinet base and top it with tile or marble or whatever you like and install two sinks. If you only have 20" depth your options are more limited. What style are you looking for? Perhaps someone will run across one you might like and post it here. If you can go 50 inches, or 52 inches, you can use a 48 inch base cabinet and have a bit of overhang on the top for more counter space. Comments (9)Do you have the vanity picked out? It really depends on where the sink openings are, if you are doing a standard 60 or 72 inch double vanity they usually have drawers or a cupboard in the middle and sinks on the sides, so you would put a single tambour storage in the middle. Of course, with 96" you could do 2 48" vanities side by side, those could be mirror images of each other, so you could place wherever you want but remember code says 30" minimum center to center, NKBA recommendations are 36". Does the 96" give room to walk by without banging a hip (for example, I have 74" from corner to door trim, but I wouldn't put a 72" vanity in b/c 2" is too close to door for my comfort, even though there is no interference)? As far as countertop storage, most bathroom vanities are 22" deep, that's not deep enough for anything behind the sinks. You can gain a couple more inches (height and depth) by using kitchen cabinets, but still it would be very shallow storage. Not sure what you mean by "back of counter". Have you considered a "tower" between the sinks or flanking them for deeper storage? houzz has thousands of pictures if you're looking for examples. HTH and I just haven't confused you. Comments (9)About your floor plan, what I would suggest is that you consider moving a wall. The bathroom wall that you list the interior measurements as 3'4" has a little jog and another length of wall that measures 3'6". Why not move that wall so that it is all one plane, totalling 6"10"? Then, you could put your makeup vanity along that wall and have it as big as you could possibly want! Possibly, that would negatively affect your walking space for entering the MBR from the Sitting Room - not sure what code might require. If that is the case, you could consider making the available space for the tub smaller, resulting in a larger space for the shower and small closet in that area of the bathroom, and still yielding a 6'10" length of wall to the left of the bathroom entry door. Good luck and enjoy your monster bathroom! I'm sure it will be quite luxurious!...See MoreMaster bath double vanity - Storage tower or One large mirror
Comments (23)Hello everyone I am so sorry for the late response. My little one got sick .. Thanks for all of your suggestions and comments! I truly appreciate them! I understand that what I would like to have is not going to fit in the current vanity layout we have right now. There is no time for us to change the layout now. They have started installing granite and we want them to meet the deadline to finish the house or we will be left without a place to stay! So we have decided to go with the single mirror for now. There is no point now in worrying over not having extra storage that we may or may not need in the vanity in the future. If after living in the house for couple of months we feel like we need extra vanity storage, I will add extra storage under the makeup area or in the master closet. But I will for sure replace this vanity sometime in the future with a more useful one :) Sophie Wheeler we live in Northern Louisiana. I looked up the guidelines you are talking about. I wish we knew about these before. But are they firm rules or just guidelines? The builder already sold a house with a similar layout last year so I am assuming he had the same vanity there and it passed inspection. I do not know for sure but why would anyone build something knowing it will fail inspection? :/...See MoreBeverlyFLADeziner
