Whatever Happened To Marilyn c
Comments (23)I just checked and the albums are set to everyone. I will try to figure out what the problem is. I do think you have to be a member of facebook. I think there is a link that you can click so that anyone can view the pictures. I will try that and maybe it will work....See MoreMarilyn_C, you hunkered down?
Comments (10)I'm okay. Not worried. We will be here unless we find out that it is definitely coming our way with force. In that case, we will go to a nearby town and spend the night with friends. We won't go very far away because we have to get back in to see about the shrimp boat and the animals. They have a big house...just remodeled after a fire and haven't moved in yet, but said we could stay there. I will take my dogs in crates and a couple of my cats. The possums that are small or non releasable, I will put in crates and bring inside and my cats can come inside. They will be okay. I am sure my house will weather the storm okay....I just don't want to be here if the wind is very, very strong. For absolutely, 100% certain...we will not get out on the highway with the rest of the people running from the storm. Too many people in this area and it would really get on my nerves to sit in traffic for so long. The last hurricane they said was coming here, about 2 million people tried to evacuate and it was total gridlock. They never talk about the more than 100 people who died from heat exhaustion, in traffic that ground to a halt. People traveled 10 miles in 24 hours. Running out of gas, panicking...animals dying. The whole nine yards. Anyway, everyone left...except us and a very few others. We got some gusts up to about 40 mph and a quarter inch of rain. My husband works on a tow boat, and I was afraid he wouldn't be home, but he came home tonight, so he is here to help me. We'll be okay. Thanks for your concern, though....See MoreMarilyn_C, how is the cleanup going?
Comments (23)Mamapinky, I washed them in my washing machine in cold water. I know they probably should have been dry cleaned but I had too many. Plus, if they turned out badly....no real loss, since I have never used them and probably never will. I washed them with Era and Biz and used fabric softener on them. I dried them in the shade....hung them on the fence. They all came out nice and soft. Two of the blankets are camp blankets and have the name of the camp on them....one is Ridgecrest...can't remember the other one....and the name of the camper. Another one has a tag that says Made in Australia, 1943. Then there are some with a Pendleton tag and some with other tags. I have about a dozen and about an equal number of wool throws. I have a "new...to me" washing machine. At first I didn't like it very much. It is a GE, like my old faithful, and has an agitator but I am used to one that really washes hard and this one just sort of swirls the water through the clothes, but I am okay with it now, because it really gets everything clean. Jody hired his helper again the next day, but halfway through the day, he hurt his back. He hobbled around in pain for the rest of the day....had to take helper home...and I thought he would be down for quite awhile. I hurt my back awhile back and it took a few weeks before it quit hurting. However, the next day, he was back at it and hasn't said much more about his back. Glad he had a quick recovery. ;) We moved home two nights ago. We are sleeping on an air mattress on the floor. I will buy a bed and mattress as soon as I get a chance to go out and look for one. Probably this weekend. Still haven't got the horses home....still working on the fence. Lots of big trees fell on the fence. The old fence would have held my horses but Amos, the donkey, will be out with them, and he is very independent and he will leave if he sees an opportunity. He will come back, but the horses will follow him and it is dangerous, since there is a highway about 3/4 of a mile away. We have done a lot but it is hard to see we have made any progress because there is still so much to do. We keep working on it....See MoreMarilyn C we are in League City
Comments (15)Raven, this place isn't even listed yet. I have had someone here almost every day helping me go through all the junk I have and finally got all the hurricane debris cleaned up that was all over the pastures, plus tore down and burned all my old possum cages. Washed and packed up all the dishes except for about 4 plates and a couple of bowls. Jody says I have more dishes than Martha Stewart....and I probably do.) Actually, there are more dishes in the sun porch and in the other building....hopefully they all didn't break........or maybe I should hope that they did. ;) The realtor was out a week or so ago, and she really loved this old house. I didn't think anyone would want it but she thinks they might. A friend of mine was here yesterday and I gave away all my old iron chairs and tables, and started on the furniture in the other building...my mission oak settle, and a blanket chest. . I also gave her a very nice old cypress door. She is my rehab partner. I didn't tell her we were leaving. She won't be very happy about me leaving, but I will still take baby possums. They aren't any trouble to raise, but right now I don't have any of my equipment, like heating pads, etc. She is 20 years younger than me and she will have to understand that we are old and Jody's health isn't what it used to be. I need a place that is easier for me to take care of. If this one had about $200,000 worth of improvements, I could do it here, but I don't want to stay here any more. Three hundred and twenty five new houses are going in about 3 miles from here. That figures about 650 more cars...and the traffic between here and town is already bumper to bumper every evening. I live in the country and if I wanted to deal with that, I'd move to town. Anyway, she can understand or not....I really don't care. If I wasn't leaving, I wouldn't be giving her all of this nifty stuff that she will sell in her shop. :)) When we get everything else taken care of, will go through and get rid of just about everything. I am keeping only a kitchen table and a few of the cupboards. You can't even walk in that building because it completely filled up with water and everything is piled up. Such a mess. I will get to that after everything in the house is taken care of and all the pastures cleared because she wants to do a drone picture. By the time we get all this finished, I am sure that house I like in Centerville will be sold. I have looked at every place for sale from here to wherever and that is the only one that I Iike everything about. I am afraid I am going to end up selling this place and not being able to find another one I like. I can find lots of nice land but not any with a house already. I don't want to go thru the stress of building a house. In a lot of ways, this is more stressful than the flood. So much uncertainty. At least the mud is all dried up and the trees are leafing out. Wish me luck! (Sorry this is so long)....See MoreSummer
