What's happening, threads disappearing?
Comments (10)yes, I received a " Friendly Reminder " message saying that : While we understand the need for watermarks on photographs, if you choose to use your website url as your watermark, we cannot allow those photos to be shared on our forums." My watermark is my website address, so now when posting photos I must erase the .com that comes after dervissdesign....See MoreMy thread disappeared....
Comments (2)Your thread is not missing. Once a thread drops off page 67, it can no longer be bumped to the top nor will it be found via a search on the Forum...even if you post to it. In the past (pre-late 2007), once a thread dropped off the last page, it was gone forever unless someone had either saved it down to their local machine (not just bookmarked it) or if it was in some external search engine's cache. Fast forward to today and in most cases if you have the URL you can retrieve it (e.g., if you've bookmarked it). Sometimes you can find a thread via a "Google" (or other search engine) search...which then gives you the URL to retrieve it. As most of you know, a thread is kept current and on the first page by people posting to it...like some of us do to the "Read Me" thread. However, once a thread reaches 150 posts, it can no longer be posted to and will eventually drop off the last page. The Kitchens Forum is very active, so threads with a last post older than about six to eight weeks will drop off page 67. As discussed above, you can still retrieve it if you the URL. You can even post to it (as long as it hasn't reached the upper limit of 150 posts), but it will not be bumped to page 1 nor will it be added back to the 67 pages of threads. People who find it will see all the posts, including those made after the thread dropped off, but only if they have the URL. For example, as I post this thread, the last thread on page 67 has a last post date of "Aug 10, 10 at 13:32". Once a new thread is added, that post will drop off and be lost to the thread list and the GW search engine (unless, of course, someone bumps it b/f it drops off). There have been a few exceptions...both of threads lost forever even though they were recent and of old threads suddenly reappearing in the thread list. But, from what I can tell, these things only happened when the Forum is having problems which, thank goodness, has not been the case lately! Case in point: A storage thread that was still very recent suddenly disappeared...and it was one of the better threads! I still link to it in the "Read Me" thread in case someone had saved it and can let me know. (I'd really like to have that thread!) [FYI...it's "forestfire..please help me with my lists", URL=http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg0919242822271.html Does anyone have it????]...See MoreIs it just me or did all of the threads disappear?
Comments (2)Just a minor glitch, like can happen with any tech based application. It happens here from time to time but everything gets back to normal very quickly....See MoreMy school post disappeared
Comments (5)Maybe there has been a flurry of school threads over the last day or two, and mods are shutting them down as excessive amounts of new topics about the same subject? Maybe there has been some unnecessary bickering or other rule breaking behaviors in the threads that are disappearing? Not sure how Robb's is more or less personal than happy's posting- both of them have school aged family going back to school and their own considerations about it and ways of discussing it. There's a bunch of other members around here with family facing what to do about schools too- every one just as important as each other. I don't see your original thread anywhere either happy. But in case the newer one wants to disappear, here's the link to show it was there. Retry- Approaching School Year 2020...See Moreplllog
