Some members don't believe anything controversial (mostly political) belongs on the KT. From what I've gleaned, it takes two members to make a thread disappear by flagging it. The OP can see it, but no one else can. The thread sits until a moderator can review it and decide if it should be returned, AFAIK they don't work on weekends. This one will probably disappear soon, too.

Since a president of the united states is now hospitalized you would think comments about this historic event would be allowed but apparently not. Unbelievable.

I started a thread about the debate and responded to a thread about disappearing threads. Both have been removed.

Why can't they just remove a post by an individual if they are being particularly nasty? Don't see why a whole thread needs to be gone just because a couple of people begin to attack each other?

They have in the past done that. I'm wondering whether now they want to use peer pressure to decrease such postings to make their job easier?

I happen to agree with glenda about sticking to the topic. In some forums deviating may work but in some it doesn't. Kitchen table and Home and decorating Convo, sticking to the OP topic seems to be the unwritten rule.

It's a mystery, for sure. There have been several threads about this subject and I don't think anybody knows for certain what's going on. How do you even get rid of entire thread ? Do you flag the first post ?

I've never seen anything like this on here before. I feel like I'm missing out on a lot.

Blfenton, this is not a problem in Home Decorating Convo unless the thread is cross posted- just sayin.

Since it takes two to remove a post by flagging I assume although I could be wrong it takes two to remove a thread. Since some of the threads that have been removed have been vary random and the moderators have mentioned in HT no assumptions about why this will probably be removed. I have wondered if the person/group who was flagging so many postings late last year/early this year is back.

As far as the changing the topic if a thread is more than ten or twenty posts I have noticed that the topic often changes as a post will trigger a memory then that is added on to by others. That is the way real conversations happen. To expect a conversation to have only one topic is for me a little strange.

This is why I like posting on my personal FB page instead. I hate groups that are moderated and one or two people get easily offended then the 10,000 rest of us are banished. It's part of the reason I rarely post here and took a break for several years. It's like banning books: the more you want to ban them, the more I want to read them. If you don't like someones opinion fine! Don't like it. You don't have to argue back. That's on YOU not the person whose opinion you don't like. How you react to something says more about you than the person who tries to incite a reaction. Want a thread removed: DON'T READ IT. DON'T RESPOND TO IT.

The website owner makes the rules. Rules that apply are written and are available for anyone to review, there are no "unwritten rules". People who allege same repeatedly are trying to impose their preferences on others, which they have no right to do.

The owner's moderators decide what to delete and what to keep and that's entirely their right to do.

FB is not that free of flaggers unless you have a very small group. I belong to a plant group where there is always someone flagging a comment. It is difficult when talking about plant breeding not to bring in sexual terms but ever so often someone objects.

I didn't read the whole thread, and honestly can't remember the title of the post but it had to do with opinions. If political opinions were part of that thread, I didn't read them. My opinion was simply: What a boring world this would be if we all had the same opinion on everything. And followed up with pretty much what I said above: how you react to that opinion is on YOU not the person who tries to incite an argument. You can yell at your monitor and not respond, or you can hammer away at your keyboard and give your opinion. Most times, it's easier to walk away.

mailfleur03, I have my own FB group: Iphone 11 photo group, and I have one simple rule: no advertising or sell whatsoever. Only those posts have been removed. I've had the group about a year now and while it's still building and slow, people stick to the subject: pictures taken with an Apple iPhone 11 series.

I also belong to a "secret" FB group that was started years ago when BHG removed a thread about "Shaving Down There". Best thread EVER! A group of us left the forum and started our own Yahoo Group. Then when FB got popular, we moved there. There's only a few of us, but in the TWENTY YEARS we've been together we have NEVER had a single argument and trust me we talk religion and politics a lot, especially now. It CAN be done.

Debby the group I was talking about is a private group also but apparently some of the people on it take exception to some of the pictures. an example is there some large flowering plants that because the pollinators are absent in a botanic green house must be pollenated by rubbing the hands up and down on what looks like a males private parts. It was flagged twice. FB also removed some pictures of things when they made that change to remove some porn a couple of months ago that showed suggestive flowers. There are many flowers and plants that really do look like porn but to plant growers they are completely normal.
