News flash, you aren't perfect ...
Comments (43)PUDDING CUPS: I buy these from time to time for my kids, and the plastic is recycleable in my area, but before I toss in the bin I use them several times each in the summer to make bigger ice cubes for packing coolers or filling the big water jug on outings (or cooling the water for when I am freezing beans/corn), or cut holes in the bottoms and use as little planting pots for some of the seeds I start for my garden. Since they are clear I can tell when cuttings have rooted well. Thanks for coming forward, all of you, and pointing out that although many are striving to be energy wise and cutting back on waste, it is difficult to do it all and still live our lifestyle the way we've been used to. Just today dh took kids into the bigger city close by to buy them shoes, and I asked him to pick up milk on the way home. Pick up milk he did, and he let the clerk bag both jugs! I will speak to him later on this, I don't think he is aware he can ask for his items to NOT be bagged (I do 99% of the shopping in this household, and just assumed he knew how I felt about those plastic bags). Or that anything that size WITH a handle needs no bag! Oh well. I'm still trying to influence change within my own little world (family). kioni...See MoreHosta pot news flash -- 4 out of 5 have pipped!
Comments (4)Good show, Esther! Now, if little Pure Heart doesn't make it (mine was destroyed by squirrels this winter), check out Snow Mouse as a possible alternate. I'm surprised and delighted at it vigorous growth despite the upheaval of the shared bowl it lives in. Ahhh, your Paradise Island will be a joy to behold. Mine lasts a long time, looking good to the very end. Maui Buttercups is fine, but when it got really hot sort of faded out. But still worth growing even in my extreme climate. Do you have a smarty phone? I have my pictures on Flickr, and there is an app which lets me upload to Flickr quite easily. I always add "tags" with the hosta name for easier retrieval. Flickr is a Yahoo affiliate now....See MoreHouston Flash Flooding
Comments (12)Sympathies to you and everyone down your way, and hang in there as you deal with all that moisture. It's nice to be out of drought in our lower Plains states, but c'mon - enough is enough! Be safe and don't enter flowing water in these situations - we've had people swept away in flash flooding incidents recently. Cynthia...See MoreFlash Flooding Cincinnati
Comments (10)That is awful. On Wednesday we had 2 tornadoes touch down in Windsor not far from where I live and in the nearby town of Lasalle. Environment Canada put the warning out 30 minutes after the event. Quite a few factories in the industrial park suffered major damage, 15 homes were damaged on one Windsor street and a street in Lasalle. Lucky there were no deaths just minor injuries. Last tornado we had in Windsor was 40 years ago that killed 7 people. There was debris from the tornado on most of the streets east of me in my neighbourhood and on Peche Island. We are all a little freaked out and with the bad storms we have had the last few days everyone has been watching the sky since we can't rely on EC. Their excuse is they didn't want to cry wolf....See Morelucillle
