I haven't been to Mozilla yet as I was having a time finding the list of all the programs I have....this Vista takes a bit to get used to, to find my way around or get back to where I was. LOL

I must say, I haven't had a single problem with my Vista or my Browser until I received that message last week from Windows Defender about the Trojan.

So in my list of programs these are the Flash/Java/Adobe items listed:

Java Update 6
Java Update 7
Java Update 10

Adobe Reader 9
Adobe Flash Player 10 Active X
Abobe AIR

I will venture over to the Mozilla site now and check it out.

Old versions of Java can be an infection risk so remove them leave update 10 only.

I to run vista an IE8 BETA, I'm a risk taker ha ha....

We can look at the trojan issue later, do you remember where Defender found it, where it's location was, and what the name of it was, Trojan Zlob, or anything like that?

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.
* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

it could be because there have been several critical updates recently for both Java and Flash so they would notify you if you were in need of the latest one, I got one flash update and the next day there was yet another one I had to get. These are very critical updates because they deal with the clickjacking vulnerability in flash and java.
As zep has said you should always delete the old versions of java in add remove when you get a new version.
A neat tool to do that is a little program called javara it will get rid of those for you

Great tool - I like to get the user use to looking for things in windows with out using tools, if the tool failed the user is lost. That's a lot of reason I do it that way I'm only saying that so you know my approach to things and why I don't use them a lot.

I've fallen and I can't get up !

I removed the older versions of Java and up came a message to install Sun Micro Office org. Of course I figured it must be something to do with making sure Java 10 was running correctly. Ummm....Nopers.

So I undid all of Java and tried reinstalling it.
That isn't going to happen either. The computer stops and then a message tells me it can't continue with installing Java.

So I ignored all that mess and went to the micromedia Flash.
Tried to uninstall several times. I received the same message as I did with Java....it can't continue to remove the file.

Then I turned off my computer and walked away, to try rebooting about midnight. Computer kept freezing.
I'd try again, freeze. Finally on the fourth or fifth attempt I got IE to come up but again it's slow to load a page and each page has messages about me not having Java and/or Flash (depending on the website).

I've really messed up, haven't I.
I'm almost positive all this mess has to do with those Trojans and I wish I would have paid attention to their names.
When the Windows Defender box came up telling me about the Trojans I panicked, clicked the box to quarantine, and didn't much think about needing to know the names of the Trojans thinking they'd be gone and I wouldn't have to worry about them.

I'm thinking now that it isn't the case? Oh Dear....could those Trojans still be on my computer? Could they have caused all this mess with Java and Flash?

My cousin told me to reinstall Vista. I was about ready to when my son told me it would erase every single personal photo on my computer and all my stored documents (IRS, TAXES, ETC.) Needless to say, I did not go through the process of reinstalling Vista and I'm hoping you'll tell me that I won't have to?

always look closely when getting any type of update or download many times they try to offer you extras like google toolbar or yahoo toolbar but in the case of java lately they have added the open office to their update which should be un checked by default but instead they have it checked which means you must know to uncheck it prior to doing the install or you will also be installing open office, now it is an excellent program but you probably did not want or need it, Now you need to go to control panel add remove programs and select open office and remove it from your system.

Now just calm down a little and take a breath we will get you through this. one step at a time. NO you do not want to reinstall Vista it will indeed wipe out everything.

First lets do this I am going to give you the link to malwarebytes antimalware, that is the one you want to use and follow these directions, the one zep gave you was to their rogue remove program which is also a good program but we want you to use the antimalware one.

Ok so now you should have your correct versions of flash and you are going to remove open office from add remove programs and you are going to install malwarebytes antimalware, update it and run it on your pc, let it clean what it finds.

You're right (again! lol)....some of these programs seem to automatically download things I didn't want. In the Remove programs area I found things that I knew could be included with other items I downloaded but I never wanted them, but there they were! Examples: Open Office, Google Toolbar, Yahoo Toolbar, Webshots something-or-other, etc.
I promise to be much more careful in the future by making sure to inspect for something that is checked as if I want it, but don't.

Even though I "Remove Selected" on everything, this info below shows "no action taken".

From the last pictures you posted, it says you need Java Script turned on. There's a difference between Java and Java Script. Java is an external program, but Java Script is part of Windows and utilized by Internet Explorer and Firefox for rendering all webpages.
