Another day in the garden
Comments (9)I'm looking forward to some cooler weather so I can bring my garden back into line. I've kept it alive (barely!) through searing heat and water restrictions (buckets o' bath water) but I've not had the energy to do more. It needs a serious weeding and mulching. I DID shovel prune two more roses that weren't doing well...that helped quite a bit. My garden may be looking sad, but the hummingbirds have been entertaining this year. The dominant hummer is a female for a change...the male and the juveniles have to sneak sips. I put feeders in both my back and front yards, thinking she couldn't keep watch over both at the same time. WRONG. She found a branch that over hangs the center of my roof so she could survey ALL her domain. She sits up there and comes dive-bombing down at all who try to drink from HER feeders...scolding the whole way. She is QUITE bossy. If I'm outside and the feeders aren't as full as she'd like she hovers at eyelevel, just out of reach, and scolds me. I usually do as I'm bid, find the offendng feeder, and fill it. melanie...See MoreA beautiful day in the neighborhood (garden!)
Comments (5)Thats my plan, to can, freeze and dehydrate all my produce. But i do have neighbors that are willing to buy some of my stuff, becuase they either dont have the room or just no time...so what I dont use i guess ill sell to them and buy next years seeds, plants and other garden related items. But thatrs only what wont be put up. Just came from the garden today and some of my okra is about 6" tall and looking good same with the celery, took awhile to germinate but it is doing great as well. Ill be putting in my garlic and shallots today as well, hopefully i have better luck with it then last year. I planted sweet peppers out in the garden today and put my hot peppers in containers. Did 2 garden tours today, people dont look at me as im nuts anymore but now they admire my work in the garden. Its nice to see that they understand why most of my yard is garden now, but it took rising food prices and gas prices to understand. Well i better get back out ther and get more done before the rain hits. Have a great day in the garden everyone....See MoreJust another day at the Huntington Gardens (bug photo set)

Comments (7)Your Fragrant Queen is lovely - I am a sucker for those wide creamy margins and yours is exceptional. I have September Sun which has been a steady grower for me and looks a little like Borwick Beauty. Here are a couple of pics from last year. I have never had the dessication burn but this one is in mostly shade but I don't think it is susceptible anyway....See More- 4 years ago
